Gearing question???
Ok! I have a 16-42 on the Busa right now. Alot of guys are running 17-41.
I understand that by dropping a tooth (what I have now)in the front will make the bike more aggressive at launch. I am not really having any wheelie problems. Only the normal 6-10" controllable lift. I am crossing the traps at the very top of 4th.
With a 1.52 60ft, I am thinking that by going up a tooth will actually slow me down. Will someone edjumacate (LOL) me?
My question is - what would just going up a tooth in the front change for me (change to 17-42)? 60ft? trap speed? trap RPM/gear?
Keep in mind that I am not worried about changes in the swingarm length. We can adjust that with the chain and adjustable swingarm.

This would be changing the gear ratio from -
16 / 42 = 2.625
to
17/42 = 2.471

Going up 1 tooth in front will slow your 60ft's for sure unless you launch at a higher RPM.

I'm not nearly as fast as you but i was consistent in the 9.80's with my 16/40 setup on a stock internal motor. I am trying 17/43 this weekend in Valdosta as a larger front sprocket is supposed to be good for almost .10 in 60' times but with your 1.52 (excellent!) you may or may not improve much on that. The hard core Busa guys say 17/45 is perfect as it puts you at the top of 5th at the lights...

my advice is do not pay too much attention to what sprocket numbers are on the bike, rather pay closer attention to what RPM that _YOU_ are at crossing the line. It's different for everyone.
Gear the bike, whatever that may be, so that you're running just about the limiter in 5th N/A and 6th on the spray.

Im running 17-42 on my 60" turbo busa. It will go 188-190 at 10600 in 6th.

been trying to decide what gearing to go with for the turbo myself. Guess you have to gear for all 6 with a turbo eh?
