oil testing service???

I remember seeing someone posting here about sending oil samples for testing.

My motor is now running pretty damn well, but past problems have me concerned about longevit, so i'm thinking about sending oil samples out for analysis now n' then to monitor its condition.

any thoughts????

I thought I had saved that information and I was going to post it here but I can't find it.

damn.

I plan to do that as well, as the cost was only around $30 and I'm not sure yet how good of an engine builder my guy is. (doh!)

Thanks, Bergie,
how long do they take to do an analysis?? Have you done analyses with them??

I usually am an "immediate gratification-type" guy. The "2-3 weeks" time they say it will take to get the sample kit seems pretty long. If that's an indication of how long the process takes...

Established in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1985, Blackstone Laboratories was the culmination of an effort to provide an easier-to-use, more accurate, and faster oil analysis program.

At the heart of the program is the implementation of ICP (Inductive-Coupled Plasma) spectrometry to greatly enhance the quality of elemental quantification for wear, additives, and contaminates found in used oils. Other commercial oil analysis of the day used spectral technologies that were far less accurate.

"The difference in spectrometers," says founder James Stark, "is like the difference between having a Hubble Telescope in space to view the universe, and having a telescope on the top of a mountain. Both are good," he adds, "but the Hubble and the ICP are better."

Other innovations incorporated with the Blackstone Laboratories Oil Analysis Program include the use of database averages for the comparison of wear to norms - published on every report produced - and the use of a comment section to explain the oil data.

With the universal averages column, anyone can see at a glance if wear from a particular machine or engine falls reasonably close to normal parameters for that engine. Unusual data is highlighted on the report, and in the comments section, the data is explained - in plain English - by our analysts.

We trend data to show the tendency of a particular machine or engine to make unique wear patterns. All machines of a particular type wear similarly, but at the same time, each wears somewhat differently - even those built at the same factory. Subtle wear differences appear in oils from the same type equipment and are caused by operators as well as environmental factors. These are good reasons for establishing wear trends. With Blackstone Laboratories' proprietary averages program, we can tell you on the first sample if your machine or engine is wearing close enough to averages to be considered normal.

Though many oil labs promise next day service, few actually keep that promise. Not only can we deliver next day service on all samples received in the lab by 10:00 am, but we analyze all oils and produce sample reports more than 98% of the time on the same day they are received!

"Week old data is of marginal use in our business," comments Ryan Stark, laboratory manager. "We firmly believe the faster the response time, the more meaningful the data, and we live with our beliefs and promises." Any and all reports which show unusual results are immediately faxed or e-mailed to, or discussed by phone with, the person responsible for the oil sample.

"And what is the cost," you may ask, "of this oil analysis program?"

Surprisingly inexpensive! is the answer. We can provide all of the above for just $20.00 (U.S.) per sample.

E-mail Blackstone Laboratories today for a free sample kit. We accept all major credit cards, checks as payment. We also have discounted analyses available.

Blackstone Laboratories is your kind of company, and simply, the best in the business!

I have wanted to use a service out of Denver called Titan racing Lab. the cool thing about them is if they find a serious problem they will call you! and I believe there test is 20 bucks and another cool thing is they store your last eight reports on their web page so you can go back and see any differences over the year. titanracinglab.com
I do like the idea about the CAT dealer we have a couple of Big Equipment shops around... man the internet is a great information tool.

I've had good results with blackstone, they helped me determine that my bearings were toast without going into the engine. Worth the $20. I can't recall the exact turn around, I think it was a couple weeks.

Mike,
I think you found the good one with Titan. Many of the folks on the web who do oil analysis service send the sample on to a lab and it takes a week min, 2 weeks more likely.

Titan seems to do the analyses in house with 24hrs of sample receipt; they call if something looks flakey as you point out.
