First trip to track on Carpenter 1287cc
So I'm the one that bought jimp's bike that was for sale on LAB and here on bikeland. Bike was in incredible shape and the deal was too good to pass up. Basically, it was almost everything I was going to do to my own '00 12R minus the suspension. Plus it was green, the faster color, lol.
Had very few chances to really open it up, just not enough room, lol. Ran flawlessly at DGVII and managed to wear out a M1 in a short amount of time
So, decided to take it to Gainesville and see what I could get it to run. Stock wheelbase, on a 180/55 Metzler M1. Lowered 1.5in and strapped.
I was very nervous and hadn't been to the track in a month. I'd finally received my NHRA license in the mail, and really just wanted to get back into the swing of things. My last outting on the other 12 was less than stellar so I was just trying to get the feel for everything again.
This bike has the stock 18/46 gearing vs the 17/46 so it took a bit to really man-up on slipping the clutch. Track weather was about 85° and somewhat humid.
10.89 @ 143mph
10.22 @ 147mph (04 R1 went 9.85 @ 147mph in other lane)
10.10 @ 147mph (6.7 @ 115.99mph, 1.8 60')
10.10 @ 147mph (6.7 @ 115.99mph, 1.8 60')
10.09 @ 147mph (6.7 @ 115mph, 1.8 60')
I just wasn't getting the 60's or 330's I needed and was just plain out scared of 1st gear. It was bogging out of the hole. The 1/8th times were crappy, and the 1/8th mph was right about what I ran on the old bike, but it picked up ALOT more on the big end. I needed to launch it higher and/or slip the clutch more. I kept thinking about Bergie and the whole "don't be scared" thing, lol.
Pulled up, pre-staged, brought the revs up higher. Lights dropped, launch felt good, nailed every shift. Knew it was a 9sec pass... but wasn't prepared for the trap speed.
60' - 1.75
330' - 4.4xx
1/8th - 6.52 @ 118.2mph
1/4 - 9.813 @ 153.3mph
Incrementals weren't as good as my best day on the piped/PC'd bike, but I was just happy to justify my previous efforts to attain that damn NHRA license, lol.
Anyway, back to basking in my glory for the moment :P

Maybe some green paint rubbed off on your bike as I spent the vast majority of the trip trying to keep up with the red one, lol
Heh, apparently, GSXR Rick was going to buy the bike as well, but I got to it first. He was asking about it on one of the .ws boards.
Oh well, don't care. Nukey lurks this board as well. Hey Nuke, just kidding about the big bore kit, it's just got cams, lmfao hahaha

How much do you weigh? What's the track elevation? I've got the carpenter kit as well and with some fine tuning, it makes 202.5 hp. However, I live at mile high and my best run to date is a 9.95@ 140mph. My best mph is 142.6 stock my bike ran a 10.8-10.9's @ 130-132 mph. thanks!

matt,
when i was at stock length, just Akro/PC3, lowered; I experimented with every gear combo I could dream up. I ended up with 17/50, 5 gear 1/4, crossing the line at just under 11,000.
Its a handful in 1st , but that combo got my TeamFatAss to 9.63@146.5

I'd guess about 215-220 suited.
Track is Gainesville, I imagine it's sea level, or very close to it.
I think it made 195/105 when JimP had it mapped. It made 184rw on the same machine my Akra/PC'd '00 made 163rw.

It already wants to stand up at the top of 2nd with stock gearing. I can't imagine this motor with that gearing on a stock swingarm. Way beyond my skills at the moment I'm sure, lol.
I might try it out on the stock motor bike though.

matt,
do you launch w/yr chest right on the tank and keep it there thru the gears? I find that if i don't do that wheelies are a problem. Well, they still are a problem, but keeping my chest flat on the tank helps...
