Clutch Problems

I seem to be going threw quite a bit of clutches to say that I have a MTC-Lockup. I was trying to add a extra steel to keep good height on the muzzy clutches. But, the clutch will not disengage while holding it. I really trying to find the right size steel. The extra is a 2.0 muzzy steel I know is to thick but was trying someting to get more life out of those clutches.

if it wont disengage...your stack height is far too tall.

Eating clutches is pretty much par for the course with the 12...major slipping of the clutch at the launch will roast them like a champ.

You could remove the steels and clean them with a scotchbrite pad..but once they are warped...they are toast.

Ive actually cut my fairing to allow me to get the clutch cover off without removing the plastics..makes the job a helluva lot easier

You need to totally disregard the recommended stack height in the service manual and from Muzzys and use the instructions from MTC to use with your lockup! They are totally different. You might be going through clutches simply because your stack height is too tall. Call MTC and get their recommended configuration.

You need to check the clearance between the lockup arms and the pressure plate... You are looking for .100" to .125" adjust the stack height with different thickness steels ONLY to get this clearance, don't adjust the arms !!!! Also are you throwing the clutch away at the start ?? or are you slipping it ?? The idea is to be able to throw it away and let the clutch slip by running some lighter clutch springs...........

YCIS: great minds run in the same gutter... I also cut my fairing to allow 15 min out/in clutch plate R&R.

I even have drillbits to remove the 8mm cover bolts..and the allen bolts for the pressure plate

I like to pretend im changing tires on a racecar...sometimes I even make the "zweeee...zweeee...zweeee" noises of the impact gun for added effect

If I recall the MTC multi lock up uses the page out of the Kaw manuel for the stack heigh. I had to use 2 1.6 steels and remvered 1 2.0 to get mine to work. But Kaw makes 1.4, 1.6 and 2.0 steels so you should be able to get the 2.25-2.27 heigh you need.

bahahahahahahahahaha
I've got an old sears drill set up only to drive the hex bolts for cover and pressure plate R&R, but I didn't even think of making "zweeee...zweeee...zweeee" noises. betcha that would take 30 sec off my R&R time!!! Good tip!
