Muzzy Lockup Clutch Questions
Anyone tried this yet? I am considering it but I have a couple questions.
http://www.muzzys.com/MZLC-K12/index.html
Does this include the billet basket and Muzzys modified drilled clutch hub? Or does it completely eliminate the need for the other two upgrades?
Also what modifications does it require to the bodywork? It would appear the right side fairing needs to be cut for clearance of the cover? I'd like to see some installed pics if that is the case.

Hey bergie, Im not 100% but I do believe that you use your muzzy hub and billet basket, and if you look at the Turbo bike that is what they cut out for the lockup, Im almost positive.

I havent seen any pics of the right side of Gasdons 12 but you should be able to just space out your fairing and clear the cover. You also might want to check with MTC or MRE about a lock-up. Most of the late model lock-ups are around $250-300. In my opinion $550 for a lockup is WAY to over priced. I'd do some calling around to see what you can find.

The lock up setup is used "on top" of the basket and hub. It will work without fairing mods. It includes a billet spacer (which allows use of the stock cover), all the new bolts and dowels and other hardware. I think if you compare apples and oranges (what's included) it is priced competitively.

Doug, help us to understand the difference.
My last lock-up was $300 retail. It came with the spacer plate w/gasket and adjustment were made by adding screws and washer to the arms. It saved me lots of clutches and i loved it, but $550 seems high to me. Does your lock-up do something better or different, or have extra features.
I'm not a lock-up specialist so please keep it simple.
thanks

Doug I dont see how it will work without faring modification? my clutch cover is already up agenst my fairing, and adding another 2" outward? it just dosent add up, and I could have sworn that I saw the right side of your SBS and they had cut the fairing? mabye I was wrong.

Mike,
The spacer on my ZX-11 is only about 1 1/8 thick. The fairing may stretch around the cover or just add spacer and move it out.

If it will save me some clutches
It might be worth doing. How is the streetability though? I mean... I still ride my bike to/from the track I would think this might also help top end runs too (just guessing).

hott,
The main difference is in the pull rod. That one part is very expensive. (size, material, heat treat) and adds over $100 retail to the kit. Our margins are no different than anyone elses. We just add up the cost and it is what it is.
Regarding the fairing, it stretches. But, if I was only racing I might trim it to allow removal of the cover with the fairing in place.
Mike, The fairing on the Shootout bike is not a stock part. All the bodywork on that bike is hand made (glass&carbon).
Bergie,
I'm yet to be convinced that the clutch slips in 5th or 6th, especially on a naturally aspirated engine.

Ha! Doug validates my eager dremel a few months ago. Cutting a radius around the clutch cover makes taking the clutch out a breeze and doesn't look bad at all.

Sorry Mike, no pix at this time. My digicam disappeared a while ago. Oh well... But the cutting of the fairing was really easy, and the result looks fine. I should really have bought a new r side ZX12 decal and replaced the one I cut into. If I'd done that, I don't think that the casual viewer would even notice the mod.
Cutting off that little strip of fairing is one of the best things I have done to my bike. Since I am into the clutch often, I used to dread the process because I hate taking off the R L plastic. I know it only takes a few minutes, but somehow screwing with that plastic is a pain for me.
It IS TIME for me to buy a new digicam... hmmm...
