surprize secret to better 60-ft times

Over the weekend, I thought that my better 60-ft times had more to do with my setup, but I just realized that there was one major difference between this weekend, and the other weekends: My new footpegs

I installed another set of footpegs in the mounts for the swingarm spools. You're probably wondering how I get from these to my better 60-fts.

My reply to that is: Shut the heck up. I'm getting to it.

Anyway, these allow me to get into my tuck right away. Before I even launch, my chest is already on the tank and my head is below the windscreen. I'm slowly pushing forward with my toes on the ground and my heels touching the pegs in order to stage. When I launch, all I have to do is pull my feet up 6", and they're on the pegs. That drastically reduces the amount of movement I have on the launch.

As many of you know, any movement will upset the bike and make your launches inconsistent. Over the weekend, my launches were wonderfully consistent. The only factor being the track conditions at the spot where I launch.

Minimizing the movement helps the consistency, but the actual 60-ft times were helped most by the new body positioning (i.e. weight distribution) on the bike. When I launched before, I stayed a little back and upright so that I could pull my legs up onto the pegs prior to tucking. Now, most of my weight is laying on the tank already...moving the weight distribution forward considerably.

What did that do? Now, the short times in the last 3 rounds were consistent in the 1.45-1.46 range. Before the pegs, I could only consistenly get short times in the low 1.50's.

Damn, I just put the pegs there because I was having trouble getting my TFA legs onto the regular pegs. It was nice to get the added bonus of better 60-ft times.

It's always better to be lucky than good.

Ive SO contemplated doign that so many times in the past...but it pretty much requires an airshifter to do so.

I know for a fact that I let off the gas a tad more than I should during the 1/2 shift to allow my left leg to get up on the peg and shift...who knows how many tenths it takes to do that...but im sure its worth a few.

Did you just get a set of those pegs and weld on a spool bolt to the end? or you just weld the entire footpeg to the arm?

I saw rear pegs on the Muzzy machines and the ones bear uses. They are mounted on the swingarm under bracing!

You got that right, Bergie!!!...DONT BE SCARED...!!!

Wannabe, as long as you get the job done it doesnt matter what you do!!!...Nice Going!!!...What were the 1/4 mile times?

If you guys have some trouble getting on the footpegs, then take the rubber off the pegs that will make them lower!!!

its not a height thing....I always launch with both feet way back (leaning over) and on my tiptoes....getting my left leg forward during the launch onto the peg is the problem...not the height....damn it would be easier to just lift up your toes and go

Hell that rubbers been gone a long time ago....I dont like rubbers.

That's actually where I got the idea. I don't have any underbracing so I stared at my bike for literally hours trying to figure out where to mount the pegs. It finally hit me, and I put the on the swingarm spool mounts.

As for where I got them, a buddy of mine makes a bunch of stuff for drag bikes. He designs the stuff, and has a machine shop build them for him. The peg setup is pretty sweet. The peg on the other side has to be a bit longer to clear the pipe.

As for mounting, the pegs are threaded. I drilled out the spools a bit, and the pegs are just held on with a 3/8" bolt and some loc tite.

I do admit that used the spool threads is a cool idea if you choose to use rearward pegs and an airshifter

I reversed my rear set plate so it now sits 11/2" back and 1/2" lower. It helped me sit farther back and to tuck in better(knees and belly)at 6'6".

Also 3 to 6 more inches and 8 to 9 grand. That is what i like to do for those nice 60 foots times. Just make sure if you are not air shifting make sure you get that leg up. But that is just me. But "Wannabe i have seen that a lot and it is a lot easyer if you get some back pegs.

No,but I just made mine out of stock 2 1/2".Measured the distance between the 2 mounting holes to the frame.Marked it on the piece of stock1/2" in.From those points, using a tee,I measured over1 1/2"and then up 1/2".The front side are drilled and the rear are tapped for the stock bolts. They're reversable if you want them for drag racing to lower the pegs.Four extra bolts and another shift linkage which you cut the end off to where it is still threaded, find a scew that fits and thats your extention for the shifter.I did run into a problem on the brake side with clearence with the exhaust(akro).Redrilled another hole.Cut the plate to match the contour of the rear frame and polish to a nice shine.
