need help beating a busa in 1/4 mile

Hello, the dragstrip I run is at 5300 ft. I weigh 215 lb's in leathers. My best et is 9.95@ 142.5 mph with a 1.59 60ft.
I have the bike dropped 2 inch's and 3 1/2 inch stretch. 16-46 gearing. My bike has the carpenter 1290 kit with headwork, cams, 13.5 comp, pc, step hindle. My bike makes 202.5 hp corrected. Actual for altitude about 165 hp. this is footshifted.

My opponent has a homemade turbo kit makes about 285 hp! He weighs in around 175 with gear. His best 60ft is in the mid to high 1.7 range with a 10 inch arm and a shinko tire. Still, his best et and mph 9.40-s at 155-160 range. He has the power to run 8's but he's still new on the bike!

I'm considering gearing the bike to run thru 5th gear 16-51?, airshifter, and a mt tire. or going to 16-44 gear and run nos.

What do you guys and galsd suggest. I know practice, practice and more practice. But any suggestions would be really appreciated!

strech your arm out! first and I run through in 5 and I run 17/51 gearing? so I do not know why you are using a 16? with my stock motor and 6 over arm I was running 9.'5 and I run low 9.20's with my 1361 now. oh I weight in around 235.

Dude!!! He has a TURBO and way more MPH than you..... Unless he screws up off the line, you probably won't ever have a chance to beat him. Save your money and KNOW YOUR CLASS. This guy on that turbo is not in your class. Understand this is not a put down it is just a hardware issue. If he is new then he will go Faster too. What i would do is make friends and let him build you a turbo also. Then when he beats you again, we can help you more. Do you want to beat the turbo bike or the rider?!

Madmike is leading you right, but at 5300 ft i think a
6" arm and a 40 hp shot will get you pass where he is now.
Air shifter will help all but the best. I thought i was one of the best until
i tried a shifter.
you said he makes 285 is that corrected?
If you want or need to get close in hp bump up to the 60ph pills.
That way you will be at ~265 and he will be at 285.
That 20 hp is easliy overcome with skill and/or setup.

17-50 or 17-51 seems to be a regular recommendation for the 12.
16-44 same as 17-47. but will clear swingarm better with a long arm.

You're already a 1/2 a second behind this guy and you want to make that up and THEN a little more to be able to beat him?!?!? The MPH (aka HP) is even more of a battle!

You're really asking a lot man! It's almost insurmountable!

Personally, I'd say 'Give it up'. But, a 4" - 6" arm would get you 3-5 tenths WITH PRACTICE, and then the nitrous (another $500) should get you another few tenths.

The problem is, that he'll be getting better all the time that you are learning your new setup! Uphill battle!

Either way, good luck man!

Thanks fellas for the quick response. I know i'm at a major hp disadvantage. His 285 hp or so is corrected but he probably still makes 250 hp at mile high. My goal is to run better than 9.40. Here in stickville albuquerque new mexico fastbikes are a rare commodity. For a short time I had the self proclaimed luxury as having the fastest everyday non nitroused, non stretched, do 300 miles a day, run it at roadrace course etc. streetbike around. Now this point could be argued but it was nice while it lasted. The guy with the busa, buys his bike with a turbo already on it, end of story. I am looking for some ways to shave my et down. If I really want to beat this guy bad I'll buy another zx12 and have muzzy throw the turbo kit on it.

With my average mph around 142 mph what the best et I could possibly get? What type of et drop can i expect by running the bike thru 5th gear? I never stretched the bike past 3 1/2 inch's due to mainly the track. I'm still not really wheelie prone and the track is often very slippery. Now I think, correct me if i'm wrong please, that stretching it another few inch's might make the tire spin more on a loose track. Is the mt tire better than my shinko?

I would like to get the best et possible without using nos. Then, turn on the bottle for some insurance.
Thanks for the advise keep it coming!!

Funny Mike, but yes, you're right.

Santafe, you're right.....Stretching another few inches on an already slippery track is kinda asking for more trouble.

The M/T would help a little in that scenario, but the BEST way to battle it would be to ALSO get a new rear shock from Penske or one of the others.

Concerning the current MPH and potential ET, it's anyone's guess, but at 5300' and you weighing in at 215, I think you're getting a lot of ET for that mph.
I've ran and heard of some 9.8's and a rare 9.7x at the 142-144mph range but it certainly isn't common! (you're name's not Ricky or Ryan is it?)

I ran high 40's and low 50's stock motor with 6" arm.
i'm ~200 in street clothes. I think a 40 shot will compensate for the
altitude put you right there. At least you can force him to make a good pass to beat you.
Or take it on the tree which I think is easier to do or a non-turbo bike.
Kcadby went 9.0's stock motor 6" arm in florida.
All i'm saying is that 9.40 is not that big of a deal on a zx12 especially with nitrous!

Your bike will go .30s AS IS. Let the clutch out. Make sure youre 100% WOT and shift just before it bumps the limiter, wind each gear. Put a dry kit on it to make up against your turbo buddy.

I think i'll try the mt tire for sh*ts and giggles. Stretch it out another inch/ inch and 1/2( pray for a good track condition.) and gear it run thru 5th. What airshifter would you fellas recommend? I'm real paranoid about running nos. What nos kit should i get? thanks!

I don't think you'll see much advantage making it a five speed. It will definitely make it harder to ride. It will be much more wheelie prone in low gear. I've swapped gears many different ways and it never seems to affect my ets or mphs very much at all. The M/T shootout tire absolutely sucks on the street. It's downright dangerous in corners! Lots of people go awful fast on Shinkos and even road race takeoffs but if you're looking for the ultimate traction I guess go with the M/T. Airshifter? We don't need no stinking air shifter! I like my Holeshot ignition interupter tied to the gearshift lever. I had good luck with the Schnitz dry kit. It comes with a braided nitrous line. I wouldn't buy one that used anything less than braided steel. If you're real paranoid like I was, use an rpm switch to turn off the nitrous before you hit the engine limiter. Nitrous and rpm limiters don't mix too well, from what I've been told. To make the most of the dry kit, get a controller so you can start with a small dose and really step it up downtrack.

You know I heard of a recall on ecu's for bike that are at high altutude. If you complant that the bike is at a loss of power. The new ECU adds more fuel to the bike.
