LOL..

Just jokeing. I know that the copper paint or the aluminum paint works.. kind of like what you spray on your base plate if you have a stroker.

I've used aluminum paint and copper coat. Both worked but you'll be seeing that stuff at your oil changes for about a decade. Honda Bond is good, Yama bond, good ol black silicone works well too. I use the that purply stuff in a can with a brush. Really stringy too.

I used Yamabond on mine 10,000 miles ago and it's still looking good down there. As always....make sure the surfaces are clean, clean, clean.

Diggs used Honda Bond, he is the service manager at a Honda dealership. I used Yamabond because Zack works at a Kaw/Yam shop and I don't really know if there is such a thing as Kawabond??????????
Mike.....Yeah, it works great.

Ok guys, I am admittedly ignorant in this area, so don't laugh too hard.

I'm assuming that removing the base gasket brings the valve that much closer to the piston, right? If my valves were already at .045", I then become .035" and that's too close.

Where do I get my proper valve clearance back from? Shims? Is that the expensive assed shims people refer to. The ones where the ZX-11 uses the same ones I think???

You assume about right. It's not a perfect 1 to 1 thing cause the valves aren't square with the bore but that's pretty close. About the only way to change the clearance is to sink the valves deeper into the seats by machining the seats deeper(not recommended) or you can adjust your cam timing. This can alter it greatly! Just removing your base gasket will alter your cam timing a teensy bit. You could cut the reliefs in the piston tops deeper but that's kinda sketchy with the stock pistons. You need to go with 1270 JEs which have deeper reliefs than stock. The only shims I know are the valve adjustment shims and most later kaws use the shim od shims. That ain't what ya need.

okey dokey, adjusting the cam timing to possibly assist with proper clearance.

I see your point there Mike, I hadn't thought about that option.

Seems like plenty of people are removing the base gasket..........is that how they are getting away with it? By moving cam timing?
If 103/105 is the hot ticket, AND I remove my base gasket, should I expect to have good clearance. (I'll check, but I'm just asking)

If it's too close, will going to 105-I/105-E be the right direction or the wrong direction?
