Manual Fan Switch

I'm sure this has been posted before but I couldn't find it with the search option...

I would like to set up a manual fan switch on my 12. I just need to know where to wire in the toggle switch.

Do you wire it in parallel with the fan switch in the radiator? or maybe somewhere else?

My bike is an 02 if that matters.

Thanks,

Ryan

Left side of the bike, tap into the wires leading to the sensor in the radiator, jumping them together activates the fan. Use a simple toggle switch preferrably weatherproof. I installed it on the plastic cover that covers the head as shown above.

I've done it on a couple bikes so far. What I do is use the emergency flasher switch. The wires for it run down near the sensor wires and make for a pretty cool setup.

That sounds like a very cool idea. Could you explain what you did to wire it like that?

Thanks,

Osti

Hey Osti,

Since the emergency flasher switch is double throw single pole switch. It has three wires, an orange, a grey and a green wire. The orange is the hot, and the other two go to right and left signals respectively. I just nipped all three wires off, then ran two wires from the switch (one from the orange nub and one from the grey nub) down with the existing wires down to where the blue/black and black/white wires from the fan motor / fan thermal switch are, much like the above pics. Then I used butt splices from the two wires I ran down to each of those wires, creating a second path to route current to the fan.

Swft,

Thanks for the information. I think I will set mine up like yours. That way I don't have to mount an extra switch.

I don't use my emergency flashers any way.

Thanks.

I tried doing this, but must have misunderstood. I carefully removed the orange and grey pins from the plug. I then made connectors to wire everything up, very neat clean, and easily removable. It worked great, press the flasher button, and the fan came on Later on, I had to replace the flasher relay (I have LED rears). When I activated the right turn signal, the fan came on!

Ant ideas as to what I did wrong?

Thanks,

Tony
