First race at Infineon Raceway in 2004 (Major changes)
I just got back from the race today at Sears Point. Unfortunately, the fog managed to mist up the whole place. Even their jet dryer couldn't keep up. So, the race was eventually called.
While we were waiting to find out whether or not we were going to race, we managed to find some changes at the track:
1. LED's - These are now standard on the tree. Last season, the LED's only came out during the divisional and national events. I'm very happy about this. My reaction times with the LED's are just tits.
2. Flatter track - we noticed that the powers that be did a little bit of track grinding. Normally, there is a little bump around the 1/8th mile where the track transitions from the concrete to the asphault. We walked the track while we were waiting and noticed that it is smooth as a baby's butt in this section now. This only improved an already glassy smooth track. Yeah, baby!
3. Crosstalk tree - I just want to say that I'm really glad that motorcycles in Division 7 run a .400 pro tree with no delay boxes. The track officials took the downtime as an opportunity to introduce everyone to the new 'Crosstalk' system that they will be using for the first time this year in the Pro categories at the track. They are allowed to use delay boxes. For those of you who don't know, the system is used on a sportsman tree. The top amber bulb illuminates on both sides of the tree at the same time. The remaining bulbs illuminate normally according the dial-ins. It supposedly makes things a little more fair since both cars can react to a clean tree. I spoke to a bunch of people who absolutely love this system. They say that it's great because both people react off of the same light, and the second person to leave isn't disctracted as bad. Once again, I'm so glad that motorcycles here run on a 0.400 pro tree with no electronics.
Now, I wish that we could get a race in at that track. C'est la vie. At least the next race is only 6 days away in Sacramento.
Anyone else racing?
