muzzy turbo

Ok, this is what I found out. Tje kit is available. I know that Muzzy and I don't see everything eye to eye, but I am willing to give them a chance. For those of you that want a turbo kit from Muzzys, get your charge card out. I purchased my kit today. The price $5900.00 According to the information I have it will make around 300 hp on stock piston/rod, with the addition of the 1.5mm base plate. No cam degreeing needed. The kit comes with simular turbo as with their race kit, stainless header(ti can) Muzzy mms ecu, rings/gaskets, all line, adjustable wastegate, illuminated boost guage, peices to seal air box, just to name a few. I know many of you have already read the previous verison of this post. Since all things has changed, I must eat crow! Hopefully this kit will perform the way the sales rep says.

OK MUZZY CAN I HAVE SOME BBQ SAUCE WITH THE CROW?

MM, if you really think about, turbo is the way to go, not knocking muzzys kit, because I have their 1270 kit. The turbo power is unmentionable, 6k rpm 8lbs of boost and your 12 is pulling 250 hp(if you desire). No built motor will accomplish that. The stroker cost 2000.00 after rebates, plus installation(everyone is not a doit yourselfer) You can spend 5k on a stroker/piston/with head work/cams and still not acheive the power of a turbo.

so pay them 8000 bucks and they install the kit into your bike, I still think it is crazy. I am a do it yourself kind of guy. the quality and tech help I have had with Muzzy's I am going to trust that. and for less money Yes. now I am not knocking barry, but that is to much $ for me to play.
good luck!

Another option is to use the Velocity kit from Total Kaos Performance.
http://www.totalkaosperformance.com/velo/turbo/zx12.html

I e mailed Kevin (from TKP) a while ago and he said that they were just finishing up the small details of the kit. Unfortunately, they have not updated the pics on their website since, so I am not sure if those details have been ironed out.

The price of the Velocity, doesn't include the water injection kit, which will allow you to go above 230 hp(heat) Thier(muzzys) system doesn't use a intercooler or water injection. Barry recommends you purchase turbo piston as well. To fully manage their(velocity) system you will spend about 7500.00, before installation(turbo kit, msbc, turbo piston). Muzzys (msbc) is about 800.00, so you are looking at 6800 for their fully manageble street system. Hopefully they will have some numbers. The good thing is they have tested their turbo on a stock motor zx12r 00/01 model.

well, not that they didn't, but perfer to have their system with turbo piston.
I really don't think there are any bad system, but the level of insurance they are willing to sell, to ensure the life of the bike. Does this mean that their system won't make 300 hp on stock motor, NO, but do they know for sure that it will on a set of turbo pistons, YES

according to what I was told," 300 hp @ 11lb boost", "400 hp @15 lb boost with their turbo piston".

15 pounds is not bad! That is an area that an engine with forged pistons and good cooling system can live at!

Interesting discussion regarding the stock pistons versus turbo pistons. I spoke with DM at the Atco Prostar meet; he made it very clear the stock piston would absolutely not withstand any significant boost level with a turbo motor. Muzzy's planned to offer turbo pistons with thicker domes etc. of essentially stock compression to maintain "streetablility" off boost.

Maybe testing showed that this limited Peak HP too much and maybe went to 8 or 9 to 1 pistons as opposed to heavy boost used in 7 to 1 compression ratios!

Of course we will sell the product....we are a Muzzys dealer.
You can bet that MUZZYS has taken the time to build a well thought out street turbo kit for the ZX12r. Got to remember that there is a spacer plate that will need to be installed in order to get the compression down to a ratio the turbo will work with and not hurt the piston. The stock pistons will work as long as boost is not put to high. If you want to run high boost pressure...then you will need to go with aftermarket pistons.

The stock pistons, coupled with the 1.5 mm base plate, whould lower compression to (guessing) between 9 to1 and 10 to 1, this is just guessing
I was told that this is going to be one of the hotest street kit, that's all stock motor and making up to 300 total hp. The avg 12 makes around 170 with a pipe on an avg dyno. That's 130 hp for 6 grand. You will pay about that for 200 hp. Example: stroker 1375, 2k; head work/over sized valves, 2k; cams 600; cam sprockets, 150;degreeing cams 300;engine assymbly 1500 to 2000; 7, 050.00 and minus that labor cost for doityourselfers. If you do is yourself, then you save, but you still only have 200 or so peak hp. Now compare that peak hp 10K rpm to 200 hp @ 6k rpm on 6 lbs of boost and taking it to redline. You do the math. That's not counting the NOS kit and the refill over a year. Remember this a street kit

Stock ZX12 $6500
Muzzys kit (self installed on stock motor) $6000

We'll call it an evern $13k when its all said and done. HP= 275 conservative
Residual value of the turbo (easy $5k)

Stock Zx12 $6500
Muzzys 1375 kit (self installed) $3400

Call it $10500 all said and done. HP= 215
Residual value = NONE.
