Here's a fuckin car buying story for ya....
So fuck me if I am pissed or what... further to my continuing car buying saga... I find a pretty sweet 2000 Durango RT... black, low miles, at a dealer about 40 miles away... I call them... the price is reasonable but a little above what private sellers are asking in the paper... salesman says he will match/ beat people's price in the paper and guaranties to "make it worth my while" to drive out there...
so PK and I get in the car... check in hand... clean it out ready to trade it in... well for fuck sakes it starts snowing.. first snowstorm of the year.. . I have a Crown Vic and it's a sack-o-shit in the snow.. I call the dealership on my cel and they assure me there is no snow out there....
so it takes me 2 hours + to drive those 40 miles in a total blizzard. I get out there... salesman is like.. "Oh... I guess it DID snow a bit" ... so we go for a drive in the RT... Durango is great except the manager had driven it for several thousand miles and all 4 tires are toast... only 20% tread left... (ooops.. he "forgot" to mention that) ... so I sit down and tell him I dont need to BS back and forth between him and the manager... I will buy the truck right now... just match the price in the paper like they said they would... (BTW it is still snowing hard and we still have to drive all the way home)
...so here's the deal... we pay 2 sales taxes here.. one federal and one provincial ("= state") ... when purchasing privately you only pay one tax (7%) when purchasing from a dealer you pay both taxes (14.5% total) .. .so he comes back after 1/2 an hour and offers me $2000 for my car and the sticker price for the truck. I point out that he was to MATCH the private sale advertised prices ($1200 less + $1790 tax difference) ie: the asking price in the paper less the additional tax I would have to pay him because I have to pay 2 taxes with a dealer.
What a waste of time. after sitting there for an hour we drove away... I called back a while later and talked to the manager "Steve" (who tells me on the phone he's only been working there for 3 weeks).... I explain to him that I didnt think asking me to drive 2 hours in a snowstorm and then offering me the full sticker price on a car was really "making it worth my while".....
well I just want to vent cuz damn it's a nice truck but lying fucking cock suckers they are.. .what fuck faces.. I dont have enough swear words that I can type here to say exactly how pissed off I am at those lying mother fuckers....
so there.
PK is damn pissed too.. she had to sit through the whole ordeal... . FUCKERS.

I'd have been pissed off too.
Durangos use a lot of gas, but they do have a lot of room.

My sis did her engineering internship at Ford and got one of those Ford credit cards(now defunct) that works like the GM card. Had a bunch of $$ tallied up from traveling around(Her husband plays AVP pro beach volleyball and is on the move quite a bit). They wanted to buy a new Ranger before the card $$ expired so they called all over and was told by a distant dealer they had several to choose from. Well, after a long drive they find out the dealer has exactly 2 on the lot, only one of which is an ext cab. They were quite pissed, however they decided they could live with the one available. Sooo, Brent dickers on price, literally for hours, back and forth, too much, throw in a bedliner, not paying for "X" upgrade package, didn't have any selection like they said, drove a long way etc. Finally named his price and said if you want to sell this truck today this is all I'm gonna pay, cash outright, no trade. OK, fine. Now after everything has been agreed, sales manager has now made his introduction, intial here, initial there, Congradulations on your New Ford, bla bla bla, my sis pipes up, BTW I got this "Ford Credit" cashback thingy. LOL, Salesman was so pissed he stormed out of the office and didn't say another word to them. The manager had to finish the sale. Gotta love it.

I don't know how car salesmen can do it day after day.
So fish, why dont you just buy some real good snow tires and throw 10 sacks of sand into the trunk?
I thought you loved that car.

hey fish, I dont know if you are in the market for a new car or just used. But here is a link to a site that I used their info on to buy a new car this summer. What a breeze of a deal! No BS in the dealer, got the car for invoice and really got a fair deal on my '03 Nissan Altima.
I would HIGHLY recommend the strategy in the site. It is a very well spent $40.
good luck

Mine's an '02 - only 17k Arizona miles on it sofar (I travel a lot and so am away from home and not driving it...)
I bought it to replace a '93 with 167k miles on it.
I L O V E these cars... stable, big, nice sound system, comfortable, semi-sporty for a sedan, strikes fear into all who see it coming up behind them...

I wanted to buy an 02 PI but alas it's just not going to be practical for me... BTW it's the best car I have ever owned.

Just sent the dealership a letter.... thought people might get a kick out of it...
quote: Just to let you guys know.. (Steve and Collin)... that I thank you very much for wasting my time and my wife's time that snowy night when we looked at your black 2000 R/T as it was the best thing we ever did. Because of your utterly terrible business skills (I had a cheque in my pocket to buy the truck) I took my money elsewhere, and ended up purchasing an R/T from a dealer much closer to my house... on top of that the R/T I purchased is a 2001... it has LESS kilometers than the one you tried to sell me, brand new tires (oh... yeah.. you "forgot" to mention that to me about yours... ) AND it was $2000 less than you tried to jack me for.. (you really "made it worth my while" ) So good luck with selling your vehicles... Your BS has single handedly netted me a far better deal than I had ever imagined from someone else, and made for a great story about what dealership NEVER to visit.
Thought you might want to know...
