Finaly got a BIKE...'03' ZRX1200R...TURBO...

LONG story short...
Gary bought an 03 ZRX1200R...installed a TurboTec turbo kit at 100 miles...
Broke a piston at 300+ miles...motor was appart at our shop...he got ants-c and traded the bike to the shop for a PERFECT condition GXR1k we had for sale...I bought the ZRX from the shop

03 BLUE ZRX1200R...344 miles...PERFECT condition...
TurboTec Turbo Kit, NEW Block and Piston (I have original block also), gaskets, HyperPro Steering Damper, JMC 0-4 over swingarm with shock mounts moved back to lower bike 2" (Painted black and installed last weekend)...
I did some head porting thinking that I wasn't going to run the turbo but changed my mind...TURBO it is!!!
My new wrist pins that I wanted to install arrived today...and so did the heavy duty valve springs!!!

Block is ON...now I have to clean the head...set-up the valve springs...assemble the head and...PUT IT ON...
DINNER BREAK...OVER...can't type anymore cause...I'm...riddin MY BIKE...tonight

MERRY FRICKIN CHRISTMAS to All!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YEEEaaaAAA Buddy!!!
VERY cold fer Florida...
EBD...I KNOW Dean...I helped him install his Carrillo rods, 6-speed tranny and BilletBigBlock...
He had "the high dyno #" here at the shop (251HP) until I ran a TurboBusa...(408HP)...
I expect to have my bike to 200HP SOOON after it hit's my 1,000mile breakin
225 to 250 on RaceFuel won't be long after that

SOOOOOO coool "feeling" the motor break-in
I was disapointed with the off idle throttle response/power below 3K.
After the ride home (47 miles) and cool-cycle it ran noticably better...after another heat cycle...it came to life NOTICABLY at 90 miles...WHILE I WAS RIDDING IT
The fact that it was 42deg out MIGHT have had something to do with it though LOL...

ANYWAY...it runs SOOOooo Smooth I almost can't stand it...

BLINK!!!
Where the heck have you been!?!?!?!
Hope all is well with your bike?!?!?!
Sorry we haven't called you to see how it's going...
We HAVE been wondering how you and bike are doing...
UMMMmmm we DO need to refill your 10Lb bottle for you...I have had it hooked to several bikes in the last few weeks ...
We WILL become a Fill Station (pump and scale included) after the first of the year...

Dean-O...I ended up putting the stock carbs on my bike when I saw that the throttle cables needed to be changed for your 40s...
I'm kinda glad of that now because...now I WILL learn how to make the bike run "right" with the stock carbs ...

Merry Christmas everybody...

At least your ridin'. I've been preping snowmobiles this week.

ZRX sounds sweet. I want a turbo on mine too, WAAAHH!!...... one of the guys over on the ZRX board is making his own turbo set up. He got 217hp 156 tq so far out of an 1100 at 13.5 PSI.

Turbo will have to wait for me, between the ZRX and ZX12 I gots no mo mod money left. Still gotta get the 12 PC'd and mapped yet. I do have a set of Muzzy ZX11 cams sittin on the shelf to hold me over.

Come on over to the assylum zrxoa.org/forums

600 miles now...taking it to 6K on the tach...
Put a weaker spring in the boost controler... has 4-5psi now till it's fully brocken in...
Made some test pulls to make sure it's safe...going rich on boost but still made 136+hp and 113+lb at 6200rpm
It has 100+ torq from 4400rpm and 112+ from 5K till I closed the throttle at 6200
Can't wait till the 1000 mile mark...zoomZoomZOOOM

Jesus Kevin, 6:20am and you're just coming off the dyno--- too funny. Good seeing you & John yesterday, and your bike is fantastic. 100lbs at 4400rpm.... drool.

I got the head off my ZRX and all is well, except for one missing shim. Pulled all the valves, dropped the pan, can't find it. The cam chain and crank look fine, so I'm guessing it's sitting on a ledge somewhere in the cases. The bores are still excellent BTW. I'll be bringing in the head for a valve job after I smooth it out.

Here's that email we were talking about - zukinut at zukinut.com -

EastBayDave; Thanks for remembering, but Kevin was dragging me down the track on John's bike (and then showing me how) when I was trying to break into the nines.

I always have trouble w/intake #1. Is there a magnet in the cam-chain gallery or what?!??? I've dropped shims in there twice....now I put in a rag; hope I don't forget it like a few have done...!

Take a mechanics magnet (flexible 1-2' long), & fish around through the leftside cover around the crank. I've found both two that way...you fish around until you hear the tell-tale "tick"....as the magnet grabs that elusive shim...

These shims came out involuntarily - during an ignition-kill shift at the track. Big boom, 4 exhaust shims spat out. I was lucky they didn't do any damage bouncing around. I'm installing another kill box to cut the solenoids during shifts.

Thanks Rick...
Didn't run the STROKER yet...we will for SURE tomorrow after we close at noon
Keith...the new guy we have here KNOWS GSXRs inside/out/sideways you name it...he built the motor...
STOCK cams for the first test..then we play with some cam combos and timming, bored throttle bodies, yada/yada...
VERY coool that we have someone here that is willing to go the extra mile (after work wrench time) to "learn from testing" on motors like this...now I won't be the only one here "doing cool stuff" after work...
The bike WILL be seen at CAW and Pritchard (he was there this past Sunday)...
This stroker motor made some STUPID HIGH HP #s in the past on spray and...how about OVER 140 MPH IN THE 1/8!!! Keith is NOT a MidgetRider either!

We are going to be doing a lot of R&D this coming year on Bbusas (Ryan's)
Ryan's 15:1 1397 should be running next week
GSXRs (Keiths) his Stroker AND stock stroke motors will be tested in various configurations (including TURBO) next year...
And of coarse Kaws (My turbo ZRX and John'sZX12R)...

DEAN...if you feel comfortable/safe finishing your "head clean-up" AFTER the valve job...we can do the valve job first...
That is the way we do it here...valve job first...then blend the area to the valve job
You can still blend around the seats again after the V-job if you wish also...
I forgot to offer you my porting tools the other night!?!?!?
YOU are the only person I know that I would trust with them...offer IS still open???
Thank's for the e-mail addy...

Sounds like it will be an exciting New Year at SMTW! I will have to stop by and talk to Keith sometime soon. I'm going out to Jeff's Saturday and prolly let him ride his creation. I've added Marchesini wheels and a little cf. Do you guys bore TB's or send em out?

I SWEAR I am NOT making this up...

I spent HOURS today doing things like...matching intake plenum boots, belt sanding the air supply pipe to fit better, and also made some changes to the carbs to try to fix the mid-range jetting (was SUPID RICH in the mid range)...

Just got done running her on the dyno...
I guess it likes my head porting because...
I have the boost set at 2...MAYBE 3 pounds right now...

I'm not kidding...I couldn't beleive the numbers on the firsty pull when they came up on the screen...had to make 2 more pulls to confirm

First pull... 200.2HP! and 107.5Lb
Second...198.5...105.8
Third... 201.9!!! and 106.6

This was at 10,000rpm (red is 10,500) with the power still climbing strong
AND...it is STILL off the scale RICH from 5400 to 6800 rpm...was puking black smoke when it ran through that rpm range
Good news is...I know what to do to fix it now...

Safe to say...I could NOT be happy-er with the way this bike is running!?!?!?
Gosh...what a happy begining to the NewYear!!!
I'm gonna put the gas tank back on and RIDE IT NOW!!!

Rickster...
The stroker made 170HP and 92Lb...
Untouched ports with 1mm oversize valves, stock cams w/stock sprokets, stock TBs (secondarys removed though)...
Next we will add another intake cam to the exhaust and degree-able sprokets...then "some bigger cams"...
PLEASE tell Jeff I said hello when you see him...
We do send out the TBs to be bored... We just don't have the time to set-up to do them ourselves...

HAPPY NEW YEAR Bikelanders!!!
