Clutch basket update
Ok, finally got all my parts.
Installed the new billet basket (although parts of it look sand cast). Installed Muzzy clutch kit and hub. Installed the Akra full system and PC3R.
I also pulled the water pump/ oil pump rotor set out to see what it looked like. The outer rotor housing looked like it had some scratches on it from the basket bits, but nothing too bad. I got the new pump set today and it doesn't look too much different from the old rotor set. Oil pan was cleaned out, along with the pickup screen and re-installed.
Now, I'm ready to run some new oil through the motor to flush it out a bit. I figure if there's any bits left, I don't want it going through the new rotor set. Should I use the OLD oil pump for this, or go ahead and install the new one ?

Cool... Next run in Orlando is Sunday Jan 18. Sunday Funday again! 
It was pretty good last night. Mike went 160 on Gary's Turbo Busa.
Nuke, Anthony Johnson, and Nazty showed up!
NONE... of those .ws faigs showed.

Bike runs, just gotta drain the "flush" oil out, swap the new oil pump rotor set in and put new oil and coolant in it.
Can't friggin wait to ride it. Been two weeks, I'm having withdrawals. Added the basket, clutch kit, PC3R and full Akra... Gonna be like night and day I imagine

Dammit. Drained the first batch of "flush" oil and it was comin out kinda metallic. Cut the oil filter open, and it there was a gold'ish dusty tint to it.
Decided to flush it again, new filter. Ran it for 2 minutes, shut it off, drained it again. Same deal, although not as much "dust".
At this point, not much I can do. I'll put new oil in it, new filter, and ride it for a couple hundred miles, change the oil, check the filter and see what's up. I really don't want to go into the motor... not yet anyway, lol.

better now while you MAY get away with just bearings and labor.
Later it could very easily add crank repair or replacement , and rod
if you are lucky. Some have trashed the cases, cyclinder and head
when a rod let go.

Man I would just pull the engine and take it apart. I dont think you will ever get all the fine metal shavings out of that thing....
I know its a bitch but you can do it now, or maybe do it later....

What is the oil sample gonna tell him that he doesn't allready know now. He can see all the metal shavings in the oil allready. I know its much easier for me to sit here and type telling him to bust the engine down and all cause it isnt my money I am spending. But man probably easier and cheaper at least to do it now than wait until it screws the crank journals and or rod bearings up.. I had a basket grenade on an old 85 900 Ninja and that metal shaving crap was in every single nook and cranny I could find when I split the cases.

The oil sample is going to confirm what I *think* is going on inside the motor.
I saw "shavings" in the oil pan. Shavings that were no doubt, parts of the basket. The oil I drained had a metallic tint to it, no shavings. Being that I'm not all THAT experienced motorcycle engines, and no one else has seen the oil that came out of the bike, I might just be paranoid.
So, lessee... I can go ahead and bust the engine down, and take the chance on screwing it up and costing me even MORE money. Keep in mind I've NEVER gone that far into a motorcycle engine. Take it to a shop that's going to charge me and arm and a leg to do the exact same thing.... OR... wait two days while my oil sample is analyzed. Either confirming my paranoia or saving me a shit load of headaches and money dealing with busting down that motor. Besides, I can afford the $12 and two days it'll take for the oil to be looked at. It was ridden last night for about 10 miles, but it's parked until I take the $12 challenge. So I have nothing to lose at this point
If this were my Mustang I'd run it until it was knocking like a champ, no oil sample needed. Then again, I can rebuild that motor myself for less than half what a new crank from Kawi cost

Opened the filters up today.
1. Maybe 1000 miles on this oil/filter. Few trips to the track.
2. This oil/filter was changed Friday morning. Made 6 dyno pulls, 4 passes at Gainesville, and 2 passes at Orlando Speedworld. Clutch basket let go on the last pass at OSW. Notice the aluminum bits.
3. This was the first oil/filter that I used to flush the oiling system. Still some sluminum.
4. Second oil/filter that I used to flush the system. Very little aluminum, what little is there is barely noticable.

i think you are doing EXACTLY the right thing sending yr oil out. Yer bearings might be fine, and if not you will know soon.
