Oops! I got these parts left over ....

I am putting all the body work back on my 2001 ZX12, and I have these two wellnutted tabs that I cant figure out what connects to them.

Under the upper cowl sits the air ducts and resonators. Underneath the ducts/resonators is a horseshoe-shaped thing about 15" across and 8" deep that screws to the bottom of the air ducts to kinda tie them all together.

At the ends of the horseshoe are two wellnuts. wtf to they attach to???? The horseshoe tips kinda rest right on top of the radiator, a perfect fit. But these wellnuts have nothing to screw into.

Yes, I have the service manual. No, there is no illustration or discussion on them (Chap 14). Anyone have some info?

I at first thought they went either to the top of the radiator, or to the top of the inner fairings, but nothing to screw them in to there.

OK, let's see if I can explain this without a picture. The wellnuts should stay on the u-shaped piece. There is another plastic piece right above the radiator that this u-shaped piece slips into. The bolt screws into the wellnut through the plastic piece above the radiator.

Get it?

OK, let's see if this works. The plastic piece that the u-shaped piece connects to is part number 14041. If you end up with just a red x, look at the radiator parts drawings and look at part number 14041. You'll see two bent up pieces on this part with holes in them. That's where the screws go through.

Thanks, Wannabe!! I didn't think about a radiator shroud.

You know, I remember now that the dealership cut some of that away last summer to help in keeping the engine cooler (Florida).

So I guess there is nothing there to attach to. Since I didn't do the cutting, I didn't know / remember about this particular mod.

'preciate it! ;D

And Necro, thanks for correcting the image. I guess I used the wrong URL from imagestation.
