"Operation Roadrace 2001" (CHP sting operation)
Wanna read about a total waste of your taxes? Click this link to go to the "Sunday Morning Ride" website, & check out "Operation Roadrace 2001." A total waste of taxpayers money by the CHP on some fun loving motorcyclists.
This event was a CHP crackdown on a ride thats been going since 1957. Don't forget to view the offical CHP document (leaked by some officer inside the Marin Co. CHP office), detailing the police operation & the press release.

...as with ANYTHING, its's the few that make it bad for the REST...and that goes for the bikers as well as the cops...I don't know where CHP got their stats from to run the sting and single out the bikers, and I don't know if the REST of the innocent and 'innocent' bikers know who it was that ruined it for them (over time)...as with most traffic violations, there's enforcement via the letter of the law vs the spirit of the law...EVERYONE has to do their homework...the collective 'you' (that includes me, private citizen biker and sworn public peace officer) know EXACTLY what you're actually doing out there on your bikes, 'innocent' or not...some of us take chances...some of us don't...if you get caught, you pay the price...not to sound patronizing, but WE ALL KNOW that public roadways aren't our private race-tracks or test-tracks, yet 'we' sometimes treat it as such and the motoring citizen in their benign K-Car believe we're 'racing' (and some of us actually do!) when we do 0-65 in 3 seconds because we can (nothing illegal that I can think of as long as the road is clear of pedestrians and other vehicles in front of you, is posted at 65MPH, and you didn't do a smokey burn-out at the traffic light)...I suspect the general motoring public outnumber us 'performance' types by a very wide margin, thus they tend to get the sympathies of the very very large general public...'we're' pictured as hooligans, whether we're 17 or 70, it doesn't matter...just because we ride/drive performance machines and excercise its/our potential on public roadways...
...so now what?...get the cool heads together and meet with your local law enforcement agencies...(believe me, the cops will not come to you because they feel unwelcomed anyway...you need to go to them)...talk about it...formulate a do-able plan that allows you to continue the 'ride' in a safe and fun manner for EVERYONE on the roadway with minimum impedence...try to become advocates of each other's purpose instead of adversaries...'self-police' your groups rides (I know, I know...good luck on that one)
...we can do nothing or we can do something positive...in the end, I believe that if you do nothing (except bitch at the cops and the complaining citizens), the letter of the law will inevitably win because the general non-performance public sees the purpose in the road rules...
..the performance bikes that we ride nowadays are fighteningly fast and accelerate with phenomenal quickness
...we know that, the cops know that, the citizen know that...the trick is to excercise that level of performance in an intelligent manner and at the appropriate venue, where ever that may be...
just my two cents...remember, there's ALWAYS that one knucklehead who ruins it for everyone...different day, different knucklehead...ride safe!

Even the Sunday Ride website shows a picture of a bunch of bikes on the wrong side of the double yellow. How smart is that?
