Welding advice aluminum
I want to put a NOS bottle in my swingarm in front of my rear wheel.... That way I have 2-2lb bottles on board....
But my question is...
Does the swingarm have to be removed to weld it??? Or undo battery or unplug ecu or any tips appreciated....

You shouldn't have to take it off as long as you can get the tig torch where you need it welded.Disconnect the battery for sure.I don't think it will harm your electronics. I have welded on acft in areas close to millions of dollars worh of sensitive electronics and it didn't harm any of them.

Thanxxx Harry I have heard both ways..... I have a friend that welded on his 1000 GSXR on the subframe at least 5 times... Just wanted to make sure the 12 wasn't different...

Looks like zxlnt can hook you up richard. If your're worried about your computer unplug it before welding. I'd do it for you if You were closer.

Thanxx Tony Topekas just a bit to far... I decieded to pull it.... And heres where I am so far...
Found a welder fella today... Gotta find a sandblasting fella tomorrow.... Already have a paint fella.... Was going to powder coat it but it was about 75 buck to replace the swingarm bearings..... So we will use a etching primer and paint.... Didn't do too bad of welds just some mild cleanup before paint..... Heres the idea.....
Still have this bad boy under my seat..

Richard...Make sure you have about 3 inches between the valve and the undertail of the bike. I would rec. pulling the syphon tube from the bottle and mouting the bottle upside down in the swingarm.

Just a tip to remember about doing any type of electric arc welding, never let the ground path run through a bearing!

Siphon tube has come of interest to me from another board.. Someone metioned turning it around..... Am I thinking right.... If bottle is right side up it draws off the bottom(flatside) of the bottle????? If bottle goes upside down remove it?????

Well today was very productive....I went to find a sandblaster recommended by a friend... I got there he was riding his tractor pushing snow. I asked him about getting it sandblasted sometime. He said lets take it down to the shop (stopping what he was doing). When we got there I said whenever you get around to its fine.... To my surprise he started on it right then...Had to jumpstart his diesel air compresser and setup a table outside... Went outside and sandblasted it to bare aluminum for me for 20 bucks...  I was very happy... Will go back there... So then I went to drop it off at my buddys to etch primer and paint and clearcoat it.... Got lucky... He was already spraying black paint today... Two jobs both black... SO needless to say I got it sandblasted,etch primered and paint and clearcoated all today... Great day... Now all I have to do is get the 2 needle bearings I ordered in and put it back together and order a NOS line..... Pics will follow but not tonight... So with the new welded bracket I have 70 bucks in a freshly painted arm.... 20 for weld,20 for sandblast and 30 for my buddy to etch prime,paint and clearcoat...
