Michelin Pilot Sport tires

I did a search of the archives here, at Labusas, and easyiders website....and there are no definitive past topics on the subject...so I'm asking.....what are the opinions on the Michelin Pilot Sport tires for the ZX-12? I have a chance to get a smoking deal on a set, but will bail on it if I hear bad things. Any input (good or bad) is appreciated.

I like them, turn very good, hold very well also in wet - if that counts to You.. In HPX I got also desent mileage and liked them very well, but Your mileage will vary(depending on Your right wrist...). Usually bit on the expensive side though. But I have allready the next set waiting at home...

Lasted longer than the D208s, and stick quite nicely. I'm still using one on the front with a Bridegestone BT010 on the rear, feels like an OK combination too. I'll probably go back to the Michelins on the next full change though.

pretty good tires, Ihad a set on my bike and took them off for fresh tires before the DGVI event. I sold them to Roger who put them on his 1270, and he said he liked them....if it were me I would run the 190 on the back though...but very good tires on the bike overall...I prefer the M-1 for a street tire, with the 190 rear though....

I have had good luck qith them, the D207's heated up quicker. Once warm the Pilots felt much better on the bike

Can't go wrong. Excellent tires. Personally, I like the Bridgestone BT012SS better on the 12. But the Pilots are awesome on the bikes I've tested with them on (RC51, R1, 954, 636, Z1000, ZRX).

I liked them, but for me they definitely took longer to heat up than the old Dunlop 207ZR's.

If you get them, make sure you get HPX and not the 'normal' Pilots. HPX is made for the 12 and Bus.

The Piot definately takes longer to warm up, during the summer down here in southern GA they worked well, but as the weather gets colder I found my self spinning up the rear alot, and the front felt vague...But I depend on front end feed back a lot, I like a good planted feel from my bike no matter how fast I am riding.....and other people have different riding styles, kerry for instance, from talking to him in other posts, likes a more loose feeling from his bike and tires.

But i have to say that overall the Pilot HPX's were very good tires, adn offered good mileage, and good traction. On the 12 for street riding, I perfer the Metzler M-1 Spotec's. I think they heat up faster, and give better feel. This of course is at the sacrifice of some mileage. And the M-1 is generally cheaper than the Pilot Sport HPX.

Another vote for good tires. Worked well on my Gixxer for the track (up to a point - then it's time for real track tires when you start dragging pegs and shit).

Arkansas heat saw them work very well in the summer. But on colder days it would take a bit to warm.

Personally I think BT 010 is a better tire for cold and wet weather (winter) - but the Pilots are by no means unacceptable.

Go for it.

HDL - Excellent point. I did not get into that much detail on this post. But I do prefer a loose feeling with lots of movement. And as you know, it also depends on which bike you put them on and how you set the suspension & air pressure. I've spent the most time with them on 954's Honda loans us. They flat get with the program on that bike. Excellent traction & feel. The fastest I've ever gone on the street, where I like to ride (Ortega Hwy), was on a 954 with Pilots. They were very good on the track as well for DOT tires.
