Gloves putting throttle hand to sleep
WTF. I've gone through 5 sets of gloves already, and every single pair has either not fit right, or really cramps my throttle hand after 5-10mins of riding and gets worse the longer I go.
I have a pair of Teknics Supervent gloves, Icon Superduty, and Alpinestars SP-2s. I've had, and sent back... AGV Sidewinder and AGV Quicksilver gloves.
The AGVs even at XXL were just too small. The supervents fit great, but my hand cramps. The Icons thumb is too short, plus there's a seam that runs right under the thumb joint. The Alpinestars seem to be the best quality, and up til last night I only used them at the drag strip. However, I rode with them last night and my hand cramped even worse.
I've usually had trouble finding gloves that were big enough, but this is rediculous.
If I ride with no gloves (which I absolutely HATE) my hand is fine. It's as if I have to not only grip the throttle, but grip the glove as well as the throttle. I didn't have ANY of these problems with my old YZF600 and Tourmasters and Troy Lee gloves.
Could the throttle stiffness be a cause ?
What gives ?

Hey Matt - I know that leather gloves are a BITCH to break in for me. I usually go a half a season before they break in and feel "like a glove" (sorry couldn't resist!) .

i gots me some pretty big hands (skinny tho) and my XL Teknic carbon/kevlar gloves fit pretty good. no cramps, not too tight. not sure which model they are. not on teknic's website anymore. i think they were the old violators. black with yellow & black weaved knuckles & pad on back of palm. however, it did take a good month or 2 before the knuckles really felt comfortable. that hard knuckle gard didnt quite fit my hand right so it would put alot of pressure on my knuckles. but now they fit good. are u givin ur gloves time to break in before u give up on em?

My hands ache/tingle more on the 12, than on most other sportbikes. Don't really know why. Kinda assume its a combo of riding position, weight, and possible minor vibration at freeway speeds (80-90 mph) getting to where I'm going. When sport riding, I don't really notice it.

Good to know I'm not alone i went threw every pair of gloves Alcoa Good Times could order. About half way through deals gap my hands would be 100% totally numb. I would have to pull over and stop it was so bad. Finally Zack got me to try Tour Master Race Edition. Problem Solved hands awake all day!

Might try this.
I always break in new gloves by soaking them in water then putting them on wet and riding until they are dry. 4 or 5 soakings will really cut the break-in time and they will fit so well you can pick your nose with them on. I have been using the Joe Rocket speedmasters for the past few years and I love em.

Now thats a great endorsement if I ever saw one. I'll have to try that next time...

The vibrations aren't what's getting to me, it's that my hand starts cramping up when I'm holding the throttle down. It ONLY happens when I'm wearing gloves.
Now the Icons have a seem that runs right under my thumb... why in the hell manufacturers do this is beyond me. Right where the MOST pressure is placed on the palm, there's a big ole seam.
If I don't wear gloves, I'm perfectly fine.
I may try soaking them like suggested.
Thanks for the replies.

The seam you are talking about is the same problem i had with every other glove except the Tour Master Race Glove. The seam is moved more towards the palm of the hand. There double stitched Kevlar and have carbon Knuckles TRY THEM! You won't be sorry and there resonably priced.
