How does the 12R handle??? I plan on meeting up with a local "group" of sportbikers, they ride pretty much the whole spectrum
( 250's, 600's, 929, R-1, etc....) The rides of choice
are, of course , some back-road twisties.
How can I expect my 12R to handle??? I am going to hang back, and observe the rest, at first.
Will I be able to get into corners as good as some
of the bigger machines???

If your setup is box stock, expect to have excessive dive when braking. The back end should be pretty stable for you, tho.

You will probibly want to stiffen the preload and compresion dampning a bit in the front. You will be surprised, unless the road gets really twisty, or your riding ability is far surpased by the other riders, you will be fine. Have fun and be safe. Your riding ability is the last thing to worry about. Watch out for inexperienced riders running you down.

like mike said,stiffen it up.adjust everything 2clicks from full stiff.compress the rear shock spring at 1 turn at a time till you find wants good for your weight. i weigh 135 so 1 turn did it for me.after around 3000 miles the tires are shot as for as handling profile goes.take your time.death could be around every corner....killer

If your suspension is set up right,the 12 will rail right with the others....it's just not as nimble.

I couldn't agree more! I ride with a bunch of different people/bikes...R1's, R6's, Hayabusa's, gixers, ect and even another 12! We also have a few others that ride touring type bikes that have been riding for years upon years in the twisties. I will never forget my first ride with them..I tagged behind my buddy on the other 12 and were riding at a very fast pace through the twisties and we proceeded to pass everyone at a quick rate (including all the above mentioned bikes) thinking to my self...who ever is leading (there was about 20 of us) must have a very nible bike...when we got to the first "stop and wait point" I noticed that "very nimble bike"... a ST1100 touring bike with the full sadles and everything......I couldn't fucking believe it! Just goes to show...a lot depends on the rider! I have a lot more respect for those guys now, at first I thought..."Oh shit..look at these guys on the touring bikes..I better not get stuck behind these guys!" too funny!

The more I learn about this bike, it seems to
"lean" (so to speak) more to the quarter-mile/top speed/
or damn near all out drag-bike, than the tight corners.
Reading Mad Mike's posts would seem to back this up !!
Either way, I am happy with what I am reading.
If I determine this group to be the "Donut Shop" crowd,
Well...................No thanks, I dont need it.
