I don't know too much about these 12Rs, but I do know that the the Green ones are the fastest ones! I've installed K&Ns and 55-100 watt bulbs so far. I'm thinking about an ocassional road course track day and drag racing it, too. What can I do to make this engine live longer under those conditions? I've heard something about a crankcase vent tube. You guys have probably posted this before, but would someone care to explain?

Hi Lawman, welcome! The first thing you need to do to your 12R to make it user friendly is get a Dino seat hinge kit!

Whats up Rookie!!!...Everyone has a different opinion on Mods...Its just a matter of preference, quality and $$$...
Best bang for your buck is 16-44 gearing change and a pipe, which pipe??? I'm not going there!!!, but heres a list of the best pipes:
Akrapovic
Yoshimura
Muzzy
Hindle
Ti-Force
Micron
When you become a veteran, then a dry shot of Nitrous will do the job!!!
You have alot of reading to do, just search for what you need...If not than ask!!!...Theres alot of knowledgeable guys here...

I will look at the search feature, but in the mean time are there any specific recall or warranty items about this bike? I've heard of the fairing wing or the so-called airflow 'guide' and how the loctite used to secure the screws weakened the material. What about engine oiling issues? I've been told that the clutch and the steering head bearings on the early models were crap. How can that be? This is the world's most sophisticated in-line four motorcycle bar none. Why would Kawasaki install crap on a motorcycle that will do 200mph on a closed course with a pro on board and 175 to 180mph with a foolish average Joe acting stupid on the mean streets? This is a serious bike!

Clutch is fine for street, but won't last back to back runs at the strip. Steering head bearings are very susceptible to overtorquing, which flattens them.
