My 12 blew up today! No, This ain't a fuckin joke.It blew up.I ran it to the rev limiter in 6th gear yesterday (183MPH) and today I raced a ZRX on a road that goes through paines pararie and got over 170(I have a yellow box).We pulled over after running (after he caught up when i slowed down) and when I went to start it the motor was very slow to turn over.I was hoping maybe it was the battery as I still have the original.I had an appt at the VA in Gainesville. After the appt. I started it up (again slow to turn over) And got on the interstate (I-75) going north cruising about 75-80. The bottom end started making clunking sounds and I slowed way down. I was trying to make it to the next exit.Didn't make it.I pulled over at one of the call boxes and called for service.About 1/2 hour later the tow truck shows up.Doesn't take AAA and wants to charge me $75 to tow my bike 2 1/4 miles.I told him no thanks , I'd push it 2 1/4 miles for $75 which is what I did.3 bikes passed me and none offered help,4 state troopers did the same, and 3 county cops also drove on by.A very nice black man about stopped to help as he thought I had ran out of gas.I told him my engine was blown.I was about to pass out from dehydration and he gave me a mt. dew to drink. He also offered to help me try and load it in the back of his 4 wheel drive ford truck which wasn't happening. He let me use his cell phone to call AAA for a tow.Them sorry motherfuckers promptly tell me I needed to have an RV package added to cover my bike. The membership we have now costs $90 a year and is supposed to cover towing up to 100 miles.I will be calling up and having words with them tomorrow.I then call my friend who goes by my house gets my truck and trailer and comes to rescue me.
Damn this is a RedElk kinda post!! Hope your day was better than mine.

lousy break harry, sorry to hear about you're problem. please keep us posted on what happened when you get more info. from the dealer. i am sure the kawasaki rep will want the dealer to tear down the engine to determine the cause.
hope they don't give you any grief over modifications. i went through a lot of engine problems with my 93 zx-11d (2nd gear failed twice and one crank) and am hoping for a more bullet proof engine in the zx-12.

They ALL went by? Like MM, I can understand the cops... but THREE bikes? At least in Ar-kin-saw, the cops will at least stop to hassle ya, the locals will stop to offer ya a lift, a drink (okay, so it's "Milwaukee's Best"... I didn't say we had "class" down here) or their cell phone and the bikers will stop (unless it's a RUB).
A couple of things make me happy about this (that's right, HAPPY)...
1. It didn't let go while you were done the runs with the ZRX. If it had locked up at 170... well, you can imagine the results.
2. You survived the "trek" of pushing your bike and was eventually rescued.
Even more things piss me off...
1. FUCK AAA! 'nuf said
2. The engine letting go. Though I might slame ya over a missing screw (on the bike), I can't imagine why it blew.
3. After the accident on War Woman Road, I'd figured that they would have changed the oil (in search of any "abnormal shit") and at least looked the engine over. No like they would have checked the valves or anything internal like that, but at least make sure that everything was in proper order before the said it was fixed.
Basically, I'm sorry to hear about your bike and I'm glad that all that happened to you was nothing but a little "exercise". I really want to hear what they said happened. It doesn't sound like you did anything that most of us here (except a few "wussies" like myself) haven't done several times over. Keep us posted.

I DID push it 2 1/4 miles to the next exit It was downhill on the offramp and some dick in a car cut me off so I had to hit the brakes. His window was down and I told him he was a stupid motherfucker.Kinda glad he didn't stop as I would have stomped a mudhole in his ass.
Yesterday I had it to the rev limiter in 6th (183mph).I ran the hell out of it.I don't see much changing with the next motor. If I wanted to go slow I'd have bought a slower bike.Just like the rest of you folks!

Damn Harry! Sorry to hear about that! I remember taking the stock crank out of my silver (1340) bike in prep to send it off for rewelding, etc. Think the pics are still posted for that one, where the crank looked not_so_straight. If they decide to put the motor back together with a new bottom end, have the crank checked by a good machine shop first!

Bummer Dude Harry....
Sorry to hear the bad news. Maybe you will be upgrading to 1270 now? Trying to look for the silver lining. Ive got a crazy question.... does anyone on this board think that doing long wheelies on a 12R would cause an oil starvation type problem? I don't know dick about where the pick-up is... etc... since the 12R is a new machine to me. Harry... please don't take my question the wrong way... just trying to learn more about these bikes.
