I'd be sure to have a GOOD look at the transmission while it's all apart. It's only parts now.

Kcadby,
How long does it take you to built a 1361, with the motor on the bench. Break it down if you can.
1. Tear down
2. clean and inspect old and new parts
3. head work (do you recommend it on the 12)
4. pre assembly mods (press cam sprokets, debur, etc)
5. assembly.
6. degree cams
7. whatever i missed with details.
I THINK someone said kawasaki gave dealers 12 hrs.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but except for the cam sprokets
this should be equal to a standard R/R, IF you have the
right bearing the first time.
Do you get bearing with the 1361 kit?
If not what is they cost?
I want to do some type mod. The amount of time you guys spend on a rebuild make me think i'm missing something.
I would like to drop the motor and build it the same weekend , 2 days 10-12hrs each. This will not be a rush
job just no BS'ing. What do you think?

My question is this.... assuming this is a warranty issue..... WTF dont they simply replace the WHOLE MOTOR???
SHouldnt Kawi be doing this for HArry, or is it just me?

Serial numbers on the cases would be non-existant. I hit a piece of metal @ speed on a new KZ650 in 77' & it broke the cases right at the split (just behind front tire.)
The insurance covered it. Took 2 months to get new cases from Japan; & there was no numbers on the new cases. Had to go to DMV & HighWay Patrol to get numbers installed which was a huge hassle. That's probably why they don't do it...

I think you got a good shop, but I had the same problem with my 12 at the 6k mile mark. The dealer told kawi, that I was drag racing the bike. I bought my bike in Mississippi. I then took it to GA. When I started getting brass shaving in the oil, I called the dealership where I purchased my bike and told them of the things I saw in the oil and that I was bringing the bike back. I had the bike for only 5 months. The guy told me that he would send a oil sample to kawi and call me next week. So my bike ended up staying their a month. Then the guy called me and told me that the bike was ready for pick up. They put 100 miles on my bike while they had it(invoice ml in/ml out). I got the bike back home and took it out to my favorite spot went through 1st and 2nd gear, then I hear a knocking sound. I loaded it up and took it the the local shop in Memphis, told them what happen. I called the purchasing dealership and the owner wouldn't talked with me. So, I left it at the new shop, they inspected the bike and said that it didn't appeared to have been raced or anything like that. The following Monday they called me and said that I had spun a crank bearing; then they told me that Kawi wouldn't cover the repairs. The purchasing dealership told kawi that I was dragracing the bike. They didn't do anything to my bike, but rode it. I call customer service and they gave me the biggest run around telling me that I need to contact the dealership where I took my bike. This went round and round for about a week or two. I got fed up and bought another motor and installed it. I will never buy a new bike from Kawi again. At the time of this I had just bought a 98 zx9r (New) The bearing started going out in that motor as well, but I had about 31,000 miles on the engine. Guess what I took it the 2nd shop and they got it covered under my extended warranty. I think the shop plays the largest role in the warranty game. Don't believe that customer service will do anything. They told me that the dealership doesn't work for them and vice versa, but if the dealership doesn't mind doing the work kawi will cover it, but for some reason they don't, then guess what kawi won't.
