**PING REDELK***

Sir! I expect a full blown, pastor elk style report on the new 10 as soon as you get it. I mean everything, ok?

Though the claimed release is this December, past history indicates that they won't be showing up in the showrooms until the first of the year.

The fact that my dealer has be in the top 10 nationally and #1 in this region (same one as Alcoa Good Times, who's always a close second), will not make up for the geographical distance from the warehouses outside of Irvine. I'm guessing that the dealers closest to the distribution points will be seeing the 10Rs before I get my hands on mine. Luckily, the time lapse between the first dealers getting theirs and when mine will likely show up isn't that long.

The trick is to keep an eye on my dealer's order confirmation updates (I forgot what the "official" name is). If I remember correctly, he'll start getting updates indicating what he has ordered, but there will not be a shipment or delivery date. It won't even indicate what color it (or "they") is. Eventually, an estimated shipment date will appear on the updates. When the actual unit has been released and shipped, a delivery date, color of the bike and it's VIN will appear.

Then it falls into the hands of the actual carrier that will be transporting my precious cargo. Since these type of carriers don't do LTL, it will be a short but painful wait until they have a full load before departing. Then it should arrive within a week, depending on the locations of the driver's other stops.

Now all of this is kinda moot until the order confirmation updates start coming in. I'll keep ya'll posted.

Of course, that won't be the only "wait" involved. When it comes to aftermarket products, I think it will be even worse than the 12R was. I had my Muzzy pipe ordered for my 12R months before the bike even arrived. I only had 2K on the odo when the pipe came in. To complicate matters, another aspect that will be different than the release of the 12R is the fact that KHI/KMC will be offering racing support and parts for the 10R (a'la 6R/636). When these factory parts become available is anybody's guess. It probably won't be too long though if they are wanting to see 10Rs racing at the club level.

It also will be very confusing on what parts, either factory or aftermarket will really be "must have items". I have learned through the experiences of the 12R that topend HP is NOT everything. That might be great for drag racing and bragging rights, but it don't mean shit on the Blue Ridge Parkway or Hallett race track. It's where that power is and how smoothly it's delivered

For all practical and reasonable purposes, the 10R is NOT designed for drag racing. It's a road course bike, plain and simple. So many performance factors will come into play that was never an issue with the 12R. Properly setting up the suspension and finding a steering damper (which should have came with the bike) will be far more important than just merely increasing the power output. Weight reduction will be far more difficult. A lot more will be at stake when throwing on a pipe, filters or a PCIIIR. Added power or having a "punch" at 6K will be a lot more unnerving when coming out of turn 6 on the track when the suspension can't put that power to the ground. Not to mention the inherently twitchy nature of a ultra light, short wheelbased monster the 10R will surely be. Having a 7R swingarm and a 180 on back of my 12R will not even be a primer of what the 10R will have in store for me.

I figure that it will take several weekends of riding before I can even get used to the radical change in seating position. I sat on a many of "repli-racers" (R1s, Gixxers, etc.) and that "staring at the front fender" seating position will take some getting used to if I'm planning on covering similar distances I have done on the 12R. From everything I have read, the 10R will feel like I'm sitting on a broomstick in comparison to the 12R. The weight difference will likely give the same impression. The combination of narrowness and light weight will completely fuck up the ingrained braking point for folks like me. I wouldn't even want to imagine would it would do to "triple brake in the apex" Bart!

It will take all of both the good and bad habits that I have been conditioned into by the 12R and throw them out the window. I have no doubt that I will have to completely relearn how to ride a bike both smooth and fast in the twisties. Something I had never quite learned on the 12R. Not saying I'll fare any better on the 10R, but I can't help but think that this bike will give me the confidence I have been lacking on the 12R. The worry now becomes getting over confident with the 10R. Having a "confidence shortage" on a 182 HP, shortened wheelbased 12R is necessarily a "bad thing", but the handling difference of the 10R could easily seduce me into believing that I could be a qualifier in Formula Extreme.

I remember riding a late model R6 and being fascinated over it's ease of cornering, stop on a dime braking and screaming acceleration (when doing over 11 grand). The R6 almost had a "disposable, invincible, go kart" type feel to it. Riding a Gixxer 1K wasn't much different, just a little faster.Though the 12R's weight gave it a "planted" feel, it also make one frightfully aware of the laws of physics that refer to inertia. The 12R's weight makes itself well known when tries to scrub of serious (ludicrous?) speeds as the apex of that sharp (and "blind") right hander quickly approaches. The R6 erased those concerns, in part because of it very deceptive of speed. Though I was going much faster through the corners on the R6, it never really felt like I was really going that fast. The few locals that have been on my 12R have used words like, "brutish" and "obscenely fast". They have also made some sort of comment on it's confidence robbing weight and size.

Combining the "brutish" power of my 12R with the inspirational handling of a R6 could easily be a ticket to disaster. Exactly what I'm looking for in my next bike.

Wow. Man you've got some time on your hands. I do like to read your stuff though. Your style indicates that if you wrote a book about your life, it may be interesting reading.

kb - the above post was nothing but a series of well hidden "lurers of inquiry" for extremelean to spill some more info on the 10R and possible factory "race" parts. Alas, as always... he ain't "biting".

Fish, if I remember correctly, you said that you did not RIDE the 10R, just sat on it. I think Otis is looking for a detail report on a "sex act", not a report on a "trip to the tittie bar". Last time I checked... sittin' on ain't ridin'!

BTW, Mr. Cryptics you know who... where is the damper (adjustable, if you'd be so kind)? Muzzy's next catalog? Hopefully KHI won't do the 10R like the 7R (remember, the sportbike "flagship" in the old days) and not even have mounting points for a damper. Drillin' a hole in the frame of my 7R for my M Toby sucked!

You are indeed correct Red, I want the "act" in detail. Because I am seriously considering buying the 10 for the track. I know, I know peeps say just get a 6 for the track, but I'm not going ot be racing, just riding at trackdays so I want the 10. Nuff said on that. Thanks Sherm, I look forward to what I know will be better than anything I'll be able to read in the national mags. Peace brother.
