I think I'm done riding in the city

I think I am going to follow Bart's lead and hit the track numerous times next year. It just doesn't make any sense riding here. It has been absolutely gorgeous here in Detroit the past few days, shit it's 78 right now and not a cloud in the sky. I have ridden to work and back each day and find myself just plain frustrated. Now don't get me wrong, just firing up the 12 for a ride is exciting but after the 6th Gap trip riding how I should be riding, this straight road, stop light, stupid fucking cage driver city is just plain stupid. Yesterday I was riding home from work and couldn't help thinking about strafing the Cherahola with Harry and Jon thinking now THAT was riding...as a cell phone talking bitch cut me off so bad I had to make an evasive manuever to save my ass. I mean fuck it, really. I need to pull the fucking trigger on this bike, not wallow at 45mph following idiots. I need to feel the tires gripping on a fast sweeper not punish mysefl with rough patches in city pavement, I need to go full fucking throttle at the exit of a turn not have to jam on the skids to avoid rear ending an idiot who changed his mind about turning. Fuck this shit. I think I'm going to the track and never looking back. I think I'm buying a 10R, but keeping the 12 too.

Sorry for the rant but this is what I have to say to city riding.

The world is a big place ...where most of the roads aren't paved.
Don't like the cars? Get off the road. Get a Street legal dirt bike. Come to Alaska. Go to the Baja.
There is more to this adventure called life, than a predictable piece of track.

I agree princess, but you have to consider time too. I would like nothing more than go to Alaska or to Baja, in fact I'd chew off my left arm to do it, but with one baby now and another on the way, I can't see that for awhile. As far as the street legal dirt bike, now that's an idea, my borther bought the badass street legal KTM 4 stroke this summer and what a fun bike that is, the problem with that is there are not many places to ride around here and the places you can ride in the dirt are a good drive to get there.

Otis, another viewpoint! I look at street riding as Racing! I am just as mentally tired after riding to work as I was after a road race! I am watching all of the cars and computing all of the things they can or will do, all of the manuevers I will need to make and what the other vehicles will do! I do this all of the way to work while looking into each and every parked car and at the wheels of every vehicle just so I will know what direction their next move will be!

This will keep your mind sharp if nothing else and is why when I do race, my mind is already up to speed! Just realize this and deal with it and enjoy the fact that you will have periods where none of this is necessary!

I agree about the mental acuity needed for riding in the city Vincent, especially in such as a place as I live. I have been doing it for so many years I am able to predict pretty acurately what cars will do way in front of me and how that will effect everyone around em'. Granted it can be spirited at times and in fact fun sometimes too. I guess just almost getting taken out twice in one 12 mile trip really pissed me off. Also, with all the trouble I have been in with the law recently, three tickets this summer alone. 82 in a 70, 100 in a 70 and then the Federal Case of 85 in 45 + unsafe operation and I have no idea that one is going to turn out in the end. I need to be on pavement where there is no law.

...yeah, but at least you can jump a curb or sidewalk or do a berm shot on that KTM if you really need to take evasive action from the bubble heads in their SUVs...but I hear ya!

Chris, welcome to my world, muh man. I'll move over and let you sit down...

Yup. Stay on the track. Get the 10R if you wish, but you'll have PLENTY of fun with a 600, IMO. You really get the feeling of just thrashing that little thing around and just wringing its neck for all it's worth. Now THAT is fun.

Unlike the 12R or other liter bikes that will chew you up and spit you out if you aren't prudent with the throttle.

Just a thought.

But I'm in the same place. Fortunately I have offroad areas as well as race tracks relatively close by.

Detroit sucks. :

Hadn't really thought about a 600 Jon, to be honest with you the only 600 I've ever ridden is my wife's 87" 600 hurricane and that's a piece of shit. I don't know what I'll do, it'll wait till spring anyway. As far as race tracks we have two in Michigan, Gattan and Gigerman but wouln't it figure they're on the other side of the damn state from me? Oh well, they're both about 2 1/2 hours from me.

I had forgotten about the "Tickets"! You know I was put in Jain for doing 72 MPH in a 35 in Washington! The Place they have this limit is a 6 lane divided Highway with "Limited Access" (Yes 4 leaf clovers) but the limit is "35 MPH" They finally passed a law about the police trap and forced a change to 45 MPH which would have kept me under the +30 MPH and out of Jail! Now you have another reason i went Land Speed Racing! After going as fast as you can all weekend long, you just do not feel like going that fast! (At least I do not!) I ride my wife's 250 Ninja in town, it takes care of my needs! Man 0 Man I hate what you are going through! Nothing worse and traffic will not be getting any better!

You went to jail for speeding??? Damn, that's harsh. I didn't even know they did that unless you are fleeing. And WTF is up with a 35mph on a 6 laner anyway? I'm with you on the speed thing though, after riding down at the Gap for 5 days at just rediculous speeds and coming home to ride in this shit is just plain depressing. I was just riding back from lunch on the e-way and hit an open spot with no traffic and what did I do? 150mph. I am just insatiable with speed but that's what gets folks like you and I in trouble Vincent. lol

You know Rick and I still haven't gotten our court date from the Fed's yet for our tickets in NC. Not one piece of mail from them. What is up with that, it's been over 3 weeks now???? I'm terrified of what they are going to do me over that one.

The Ploice had to have a place where they can always make money! 6 lanes kimited access divider even a 2 hospitals within 1/4 mile and they have the camera cars, Lidar and Radar there! My day was with Lidar and people were acting like idiots jamming on the brakes and changing lanes! Now I know why! The were watching the people flashing their lights while I was trying to avoid them! The good news was, I got an attorney who got it redced to 29 MPH Over and paid $200 and because I was not charged with Speeding, but a criminal act, I never got any points! If I was found guilty, 12 points and 6 months suspension. Why do you think I have Ohio Plates on my bike now?

I hear ya C...I dont ride around in the streets of NYC much anymore!!!...Since DragRacing I have found that it satisfies my need for speed!!!

The city has too much traffic and way too many A - Hs...

The next 12 I get wont even be registered, just a 30 day temp plate for break in, then to the DragStrip she goes!!!...No ins. or regi...Hmmm, more money for DragRacing!!!

What a pity... Otis dont like his city
He loves Bart so... to be his track ho
Harry is cute.. but Rick is cuter...
Otis rejected them... because he's fond of JonWright's pea shooter
Not to forget Elk and Lucky...Otis calls them his "rubber duckies"
Farewell to Detroit and the streets Otis rides within...
He just booked a hotel room for Bart... to create the 8th sin.

When I reach the highway that's at the entrance of my neighborhood, I have to go either left or right. Left takes me to "town". Right takes me to the twisties in less than 10 minutes. Closer to five.

Anyone that knows me knows... I never turn left.

I might ride in town 5 times a year. At least 4 of those is going to my dealer.

Once in a blue moon Ninja Dude Rob lures me to the city traffic with an invite to Hooters or something which I hate with a passion riding the 12 in city traffic.

Last Friday afternoon I rode into a small city on an errand and almost got broadsided and almost rearended. I then seen an accident right in front of me and I said to myself, You should have taken the truck.

Drag Racing Otis. Try it and just go there on test and tune night. It allows you to go though the gears at WOT and 1/4 mile you can hit 140mph. Just don't take it serious. What I mean don't get caught up in making the bike faster each week,

Just go out and hammer the piss outta the throttle. Its a lot of fun if you don't get serious and concerned about times and whos running what.

A little NOS is like happy gas, I put NOS on a 12 this summer and its a cheap thrill.
Maybe this winter my 12 will get some happy gas

It may be hard not hitting the button on the street is the only downside If you wanna call that a down side

I've been to the dragstrip before Norm, it was a blast for sure, shit I ran a 10.6 the first day I went, but it's not something I'm really interested in. I enjoy the twisties which is why a roadcourse is where I'm headed.
