D & D slip on for the ZX12

Can I get some input on a D & D slip on for the ZX-12?
Anyone run this or have any info? Can I really not worry about boxes and mapping and such like I am being told?
Shop is listing it at $260.00 which is much better than the $320 the one on the wall at the dealer was listed at.

If mostly what you want is sound I have heard good things about a Yosh bolt-on, looks decent too. Think you will most likely lose power with the D&D though.Might be too loud also.

Actually if you wanna save money... go down to a party supply store and purchase some New Year's Eve noise makers for $2.99. It would be the same thing as a D&D.

Flip a coin on the bolt-on mufflers. Anyone who says theirs works better than the next guy, is bullshitting you. Complete systems, well that's a whole other story. The Bolt-On can add a horse or two, but that's it. And you don't need a PC. But they do sound bitchin, look cool, and can save you 5 or 6 pounds of weight.

Oh, and if you still want one, I've got a Jardine Carbon Fiber Bolt On with 100 miles on it. Looks perfect, saves 6 pounds, sounds cool, and takes 5 minutes to bolt on. $150.

Well, how convenient, Kerry. You just HAPPEN to have a Jardine can laying around (took it off for the full Muzzy system? C'mon - you can confide in us. We won't tell).

Hey, gotta keep it real here! We don't make a complete system for the 12 and I didn't want to spend the R&D time to make a one-off. I talked to Doug about it, and we compromised with me running his header & a Jardine/HRC muffler. I don't try and hide it. As a matter of fact, I promote it!!!! The Muzzy header is great! Fits great, etc.. The muffler would be a wash, as I built mine to Muzzy specs, using our HRC mufflers/materials. So it's simply really, really lightweight.

I do offer the Bolt-Ons and they sell reasonably well for the benefits you get.

No big. I'll let you in on the secret. The shells are .025 wall and can withstand constant temps up to 800 F. The inlets, outlets, internals, etc, are .018 - .020 titanium and inconel. Packing is weighed to the gram and is supplied by Silent Sport. The mufflers cannot vary more than 1 ounce of each other. All of them have a "heat strip" on them that monitors max temperture of the shell at the inlet (hottest area). We change them every National or 300 km. The mufflers are all completely hand build and cost as much as most full titainium exhaust systems. So I don't think I'd sell very many if I offered them up....

I hear you both loud and clear. and I ain't no 200 MPH guy(yet) but damn if it don't feel stupid riding a bike like the zx 12 and having it sound like a well installed dishwasher. Guy was telling me yesterday about the vance and hines which he says has lost its sparkle with the kids but still runs and sounds good.

I will have to revisit the thread on gutting the stock can too. All of a sudden 300 bucks is alot of money.

Actually - I ran the stock can for quite a while. It's pretty funny to just 'swoosh' by folks on the road. Plus you can rather hooligan it up without attracting a lot of attention (well - compared to a pipe).

kbryant, u must have a bloody light can! i was amazed just how light the stock can on the 12 is. i guess is hsoudlnt be too surprised given it's full TI, but i was. the headers... those are another story. seem to remember the packaged weit was about 22 lbs when turboblew sent me one. in any case, out cans are alot lighter than others, like my buddie's SP2.

Yea, she's a featherweight @ 3.47 lbs. If I remember correctly, I think the stock ZX12 muffler weighs 10 or 11 lbs.

When you started the thread, you were looking in the $260 - $320 area. Read mine and there is a dope carbon available for $150. So if $150 is still too much for ya, then get out the sawzall and holesaw and refer to past threads on mods to the stock muffler.

oooo, very nice. i seem toremember the muzzys carbon is 4lbs and the ti is 4.5? so that's damn light. that's just the 18" right? personally, i'm thinking to go the 21" route when it comes time to do the can. i remember u mentioning it was much quieter, which i like. if i could keep it stock noise level with aftermarket performance and weight (and sound) id be in heaven.

Yea, 18". The 21" is definetly quieter. If you have any problems finding a 21" can, let me know and I'll make one up for you.
Can't get you down to stock sound level, but it's definetly tolerable.
