Ok here's the real deal
Well, I picked up that 2001 12R for a good price and have now solved the mystery....The bike was laid down on the left side and the TPS was cracked and repaired (it will be replaced this winter). I bought a manual and found out how to check the flash codes. it turns out that it was a current code 12 (Intake air pressure sensor malfunction). I checked for vacuum to the sensor (ok) and then did pinout tests on the connector. There was good 5V reference, but the blue wire was open circuit back to the ECU. I noticed that the harness on the left side had been repaired, so I ripped all of the tape off and started tracing (seemed the most logical place to start). I found the blue wire to be severed and the yellow wire was damaged. I repaired these wires, and inspected the others in the area. It was a good thing too, as the camshaft sensor wires were hanging on by a strand as well. I repaired the wires, rebuilt the harness and reassembled. No more FI light on. I assume that the ECU was substituting preset values for the missing sensor data, and that is why the bike still ran ok. I am hoping that it has picked up some power (not that it didn't have enough....but if some is good, more is better...LOL!!)

Good that You got it fixed because I'm been out of house for the last week and totally forget to take the book with me the week before that. But the good thing is everything is now sorted and it is very good to have the book. It can help You in many occasions.
