Can Titanium be polished?
Most if the after-market mufflers made out of titanium have kind of a cloudy finish on them. Is it possible to polish it out to a glossy finish (like it is possible to do on stainless) or does Ti is simply made that way and it is better to leave it as is? Once polished, is it more scratch resistant than polished aluminum? (I suppose it is but just want to be sure). Thanks!

Yep. No problem. The reason nobody does it, is because then it would look just like aluminum or stainless. So the only person who'd know it was Ti would be you. The trick factor go way down....

Then, I suppose it is better to keep it as is. Also, does Ti turn a different color over time and heat cycles (like SS that turn goldish)? Thanks again!

Yes. It has more of a tendency to turn blueish (dark or light), yellowish, depending on how much heat you put to it. The amount of heat is what determines the color options (not cycles). On something like a Superbike, it normally turns a light blue. That's a combination of extreme heat and race gas.

I should add that the cool colors are going to be seen on the headpipes & S-bends. The muffler won't normally turn colors because the packing material keeps it insulated from heat. But the inlet & outlet caps will normally turn blueish (provided they are Ti). Some manufactures use cast or billet aluminum and/or stainless steel on these caps.

the stock 12r can is titanium. it turns gold (much like the SS midpipe) after time. shiny silver colour just like SS when new; comes polished from teh factory, just liek ur askin about.

So true. But it's much thicker than the aftermarket silencers, plus it was a vast array of chambers. Aftermarket will just have a straight-thru perf core, so it won't retain much heat. But I'd agree that potentially, it would probably only turn gold and not get hot enough to turn blue. The Ti caps on my muffler barely turn color at all.
