Cool. As I've said before, whatever makes you confident and transfers good feel to you, is the correct tire.
Took both 12's through their paces today (bike & tires). Man those Stones just work! 30 psi rear, 31 psi front. Hot out today.
I don't recall if the ZX6RR comes with the same exact tires. The one I rode actually had Pirellis on them!
i believe you on the 190 for the 12, but it's just not for me. Maybe if it was 100 pounds lighter.... The next time I try a 190, will be on the ZX10. Hope to find out tomorrow exactly when I get my hands on it.
quote:I'll qualify my opinions by saying I can go just as fast on Dunlops, Michelins, and Pirellis. But it is not a "comfortable" pace and I'm always on edge. The Stones offer the same feel as the frame/chassis, and therefore, I live in harmony and know exactly what I can and can't get away with. Dave, I think you follow me??? (no pun intended...)
Oh yeah, especially riding & expecting a certain amount of chassis flex. I can't feel it that much myself nowdays; the shitty stock suspension is "masking" the chassis flex feel for me so I just don't ride to that level much anymore (maybe @ a trackday; NorCal roads are pretty lousy nowadays unlike many SoCA canyon roads. Using that damn "chipseal" everywhere now.)
Guys, you gotta realize Kerry rides at a level that most of us mere mortals cannot understand. 99.5% of you have never ridden at that level. Kerry's got this die-hard Dunflop man thinking about Bridgestones for the first time....

I'm going to stick to the 208's for now , but what would be good for the drag strip? this is the frist bike i wll be running that does not have a goodyear on the back.

Thanx Dave. Honestly, I don't feel any slower than when I stopped racing. I'm smarter now, so maybe that's how I've managed to keep the pace up. At the places I ride, I'm up against guys 10 - 20 years younger who say they are front runners at Willow. Looking at their bikes/tires/knee pucks/patches on leathers, I'd say they are. But I don't have any problem keeping up, passing, pulling away, no matter what I'm riding. At the track days, I don't run the full johnny racer session, because I'm always on a street bike (and most of the time it's borrowed...). I struggle alot with wanting to get back into racing. Luckily, I "race" with my two sons most weekends motocrossing, as well as the occasional track day and of course Sunday morning sprints... Maybe that's where I've been able to keep my pace; lots of motocrossing.
The only reason I mention this, is that I don't make my comments on tires without alot of thought. I'm not being paid by Bridgestone or anyone else. I buy my tires just like you guys do. So I would not steer you wrong. But remember, what works for one guy, might not work for another. As I stated, I like a "loose" handling bike that moves around alot.
Hey, if they ever have any endurance races at Sears, throw my name out there to someone looking for a rider. I'd love to come back up there to my "home" track!

Guess I'm a bit biased as I used to be sponsored by Dunlop back in my racing days (77'-84'.) Now I'm just another street squid but I do make the drags at least twice a year, & a couple trackdays a season too. Typically one in the spring & one in the fall. I avoid Thunderhill anytime BUT winter...
As for the AFM 4-Hour Endurance race, yes it's coming up Sat. Oct. 4th, with sprint races on the 5th. Funny you mention this, I just happen to know someone who's maybe/maybe not riding w/a broken ankle. He may not be able to run the 4 hour...
I know you used to like the big-4's, how do you feel about running a twin? Like a Duc 748 or a Suz SV650/TL1000? I know several folks running this upcoming race Kerry & might be able to find ya a ride....
Dave

I know what you mean. Remember, I ran the Norcal Goodyear Racing Tire division? So on the track I was completely biased towards Goodyear, and then later Dunlop. I really "liked" them when they gave Rich & I 25 of the "good" tires for the Suzuka 8 hour! But that was when I could be bought with free tires...
But on the street, I've always been pretty open minded.
As far as the race, doesn't really matter too much, but would not want to do it on a "tiddler" like a SV650 or Duc 748. Just too slow. Yea, I do like the big bike/big hp. With my "Bakersfield" line style of riding, it lends itself to big power & good brakes. Keep me clued in if someone may be looking for a rider and/or another rider.

I reset up the shocks and the front forks and the made a big change on the way the bike rides. it made it a lot better to run hard in the cornners

Ya know, I used to like the Goodyears a lot. I was damn pissed when they got out of the motorcycle tire business as I thought they were the best slicks available (at the time.) Had several "best races" on Goodyears...
Well as for the 4-hour, the one team I was talking about didn't run (broken ankle dude was just too sore.) The other team ran (Duc 748), but one of the riders bailed on the second stint, first lap (cold tires?) Totaled the bike so that was it for that one....
Shame....there were not too many teams running the 4-hour this year...(I heard ~23, that's not many bikes....)
