Yup, you're right. I just got this info:

ATTENTION Racers and Performance Enthusiast!!
We (NASA Texas) have been conducting road race events in Texas for the last three years. An operator of a retired air base has agreed to rent us their facility for hosting a one-mile high-speed shoot out. We are all interested in finding a place to "run" legally. Here is the chance to prove what you got and run wide open.

Also, we are seeking businesses that want to support the event through being a tech shop, contingency provider and/or awards supporter (through gift certificates, product and cash).

Here are some of the basics:
THE INAUGURAL TEXAS ONE-MILE HIGH SPEED SHOOT OUT
WHEN: Oct. 25-26, 2003
WHERE: Goliad, Texas (retired NAVY airfield)
STRUCTURE: 120 foot roll-out, 1 mile run with radar speeds being primary determination of victors backed by timing lights for tie breakers, ½ mile for shut-down
WELCOMING: Motorcycles, Performance Street Cars, Race Cars and Vintage Cars
DRIVERS and RIDERS: Prepared (Caged) Race Cars and Motorcycles Get the Chance to Join the 200+ mph Club of Texas; Other Street Cars can run to 180 mph. Win Trophies and Certificates. Working on providing contingencies and cash prizes.
A MOTORSPORTS FESTIVAL: Fun, Safe, well organized and legal. A Full Weekend of High Speeds, Other Festivities and Entertainment. Car Shows. Beautiful Event Hostesses. Wheelie Contest. And More. JOIN IN ON THE FUN.

We are posting updates on the event at: www.nasatx.com/highspeed.asp
Please contact us with any questions: Thanks: Jay and Shannon Matus: 281-802-9863; Deanna Lewis: 817-243-2286; info@nasatx.com

Bergie,
You figure my bike w/the 10" arm would slip too much? Maybe my FatAss would help 'er hook up??? N/J, I am concerned about top end top slip costing me mph, maybe not even hit 200

TB,
bike is at 68" now; i can go to 66.5". whatta ya think?

When I had a 6" arm & 1361 I got 201 on gps on asphalt, but it seemed to be slipping a bit then so I figure w/1427 & longer arm, it'd slip substantially more??? Obviously I don't know much about top ending, but it sure is FUN!

Id say put a brand new Rennsport tire on before the event and you should be ok.
Wasnt Steve Knecums bike at 67" at Maxton when he set the record?

Karl you shouldn't have too much trouble on the concrete since it's a * rolling start * and I'm certain any real airport surface has to be smoother than Maxton. The trouble at maxton is acceleration using a stock tire and long wheelbase from a dead start, 1st~3rd is useless, 4th too with your kind of power. Shorten it up as best you can, and give it a whirl!!! it will be fun and I'm sure you will break 200. Change your gearing to at least 18/44! GOOD LUCK! I can't make it this time but I'll keep an eye out for the next event

Metzler Rennsport. I forget which compound (there are 2)...but probably the stickier compoud (red??)
Its a really good street tire and it will keep ya hooked up. It does well on 360hp turbos.

Oh... and with a new tire... you could probably get away with the 43 tooth.
After a few passes though.. you may have to go back to 44.

Update on the Texas Shootout

I'm not sure who's interested but I got this update posted on my site.

Goliad, TX at an old Naval Airfield... Map will be on website within the week.

1. National Coverage by HOT ROD Magazine.

2. ADDITIONAL RACE TYPE/STRUCTURE by POPULAR DEMAND:

We are providing the vehicle drivers with two (2) different race types from which to choose.
1. Fastest Acceleration Race and
2. MPH Accuracy Race

Motorcycle riders have predominately requested just the MPH Accuracy Race Type. This will remain the only race type for motorcycle riders.

Explanation and Structure of each race type:
1. Fastest Acceleration Race - Drivers are ranked based on the time it takes to reach the Tech / Top Speed for the chosen class. This race type begins with a standing start at point A (the beginning of the mile); there is no roll out. Drivers will run their vehicles up to the Tech / Top Speed for the chosen class and then continue through the rest of the mile at a speed of their choosing (not to exceed 7 mph over the Tech / Top Speed). Drivers will be allowed to exceed their Tech / Top Speed by 7 mph without disqualification. Winners will be determined by the fastest to reach the Tech / Top Speed.

2. MPH Accuracy Race - Drivers are ranked based on being the closest to the Tech / Top Speed for a particular class when crossing through the speed trap which is the last 132 feet of the mile. This race type begins with a 120-foot roll out, leading up to point A, which starts the mile and traveling to point B (the end of the mile).

Drivers will select only one race type. These choices can be found on the registration form as well as the different classes.

3. FORMS
All of the forms are now posted on the website http://www.nasatx.com/highspeed.asp
(updated registration, medical, technical & experience).

Upon receipt of the registration form and payment, NASA TX will notify the driver/rider via email or phone to let them know that the registration has been received and they are guaranteed a spot in the event as well as assign a number for the car or motorcycle.

4. ENTRY DEADLINE / SPACE IS LIMITED -
In an effort to insure that this event is well organized, it is imperative that drivers/riders submit their entries immediately. Numerous factors contribute to the proper planning of such events. This event is First Come, First Serve, and so IT IS IMPERATIVE that you submit your entry now. Contact us immediately to discuss your entry if you are unable to submit it by October 18, 2003.
Email - info@nasatx.com
Fax - 281-412-6345
Phone - 817-243-2286
