2002 fuel pressure regulator, fuel sytem upgrades ??s
I now I ask alot of questions on here and I appreciate those who reach out to help
Ok, another dilemma
When replacing the stock 2002 fuel pump to a walbro gss307 (66pgh/255iph),
I would like to ditch the fixed in tank regualor, and go to a manual inline fpr to feed the fuel rail
Will use either 06-07 zx14 injectors 430cc or 2012+ zx14 injecors 380cc and modify fuel rail to fit (i have a real good machinist buddy), seems to be my best budget option, will send used injectors off before use for clean/balance
If anyone has an opinion on a better way to go im open to it
Engine will should make very good power this time around, and want to upgrade system for a future dry shot (20-40hp) while i have everything apart
Rather the fuel system to be overkill than run lean and melt pistons
Any suggesions on what fpr or injector to use would be appreciated

Easiest is to drill and tap the rail for an outlet (1/8 npt to 5/16 hose barb) and make it a bypass system. Or have your machinist modify the rail to accept the 00-01 regulator.

You mostly answered my question kz scott,
after pulling my factory fuel pump tonight, i can see this is going to be much more difficult than i thought
As dont dont really see a way to bypass the factory plug in style regulator, i dunno, this is going to require research on my part
If anyone has done anything like this on an 02+ please pm me
Photos would be appreciated as well

It's really easy. Get rid of the plastic filter assembly and route some submersible hose from the pump outlet to a -6 bulkhead (drill a hole in the bottom of the housing) use an appropriate efi rated inline filter either in the tank or between the tank and the rail. Your factory outlet on the bottom of the tank can now be used as a return

I get exactly what u are saying now
I could do this slightly reversed and just run the factory pump outlet to the factory tank outlet with sumersible line and high pressure clamps,
Then drill and use the -6 bulkhead as a return right near my prefilter as thats the place there is the most room to install one
Use an isolator sleeve around the pump and secure in place with a hose clamp
The drill n tap rail for regulator
EASY

So after some reading, the gss307 is the standard pressure 255, the gss340 is the high pressure 255, and the gss242 is the high pressure 190
So which pump should i use? Im thinking probably either of the high pressure pumps and use the bypass regulator to control rail pressure? Correct?
Gss242 enough?
380cc or 430cc injectors?
And vaccum referenced or non vaccuum referenced regulator?
Also, what to shoot for, 50 psi? Or more?
250hp on nitrous at flywheel engine (which is probably a lil more than it will ever make but, rather be on the safe side)
Someone please give me some redneck understandable info 😂😂

the absolute worst place to return the fuel is at the sock. you will get aerated fuel into the pump. its best if its returned up into the tank, which is why i suggested using the factory outlet. it will have a stem on it.
a 242 will fuel 400 hp easy enough and is less amp draw
380s are enough for a small shot like that no problem. lots of guys do it with stock inj. im not sure what you may or may not have done to the motor to require more fuel besides nitrous?? that would affect my answer
your 02 is not expecting the fuel pressure to be vac referenced, but it may help the larger injectors idle better as it lowers the pressure when the motor is in vacuum. aim for 43psi static. you will see it drop a bit at idle if the reg is connected to vac.
Im curious as to why youre actually going through the trouble to convert the system from dead head to return style? will you be swapping fuels and need to make sure its completely out of the system? its quite easy to retro fit a bigger pump and keep the in-tank regulator

Engine is just:
Head porting (shaved 2 thousandths just to get perfectly straight)
Serdi valve job
No base gasket (compresion in 12.8:1-12.9:1 range)
Good springs
Full muzzy
Bear stacks
Retimed cams
Flashed ecu (timing added, rev extend, no speed limiter)
Pc5
Block off plates and all the other basic zx12 free mods
Ace did top end and ecu
Alan @ xtreme motorsport in mobile al did engine dissasembly and will do reassembly, cam timing, and tune
Nothing special, hoping for 190 whp on motor, pump gas
Nitrous is the only fueling concern, 20-40 dry, (small shot I know) conversion to return style just to be able to control fuel pressure, which it wont even get a dry kit til next year, rather upgrade fuel system now while the bike have apart, though
Even when I do install, will be on progressive control, window rpm switch and wot throttle switch, with switchable nitrous map, pc5 timing box, wizards of nitrous bottle, wizards of nitrous pulsoid, fogger dry kit, race fuel on spray
Basically everything just as safely as possible, with alot of fine tuning capability

well if you have all the correct electronics, (and it appears you do) theres no need to change fuel pressure for nitrous. a larger pump with larger injectors and the factory regulator in the tank will work just fine, and be much less work
heres an example that another guy did using a 2002 fireblade fuel filter.
if you did this with walbro gss242, and bigger inj then you would have much more than enough fuel system.
btw use proper efi rated clamps

You're wasting effort. The stock system will support any N/A app. KZ's idea will do cover anything else you seem to have in mind.
