Valve Adjustment Question

Bike is going in to the shop for the 7,500 mile valve check.

Do you normally recommend replacing the valve cover gasket? I had the shop order one anyway, thinking it is a 'consumable' item.

I didn't want my bike doesn't site there for 4 days waiting for it, but I got to thinking that maybe it is reusable?

Just don't want no stinkin' leaks.

Thanks

I've reused them before, no problem. Depends on the condition of the gasket when you pull the cover I guess, some fair better than others. Doesn't hurt to have the replacement on hand that's for certain.

on my zx-11, after 80,000 kms, still have the originals. you decide. If it leaks, it's your problem. If they use new and it starts to leak, its their problem!!

It's the standard Kawa rubber camcover seal right?
Somebody shoot me down, but I thought that these things were designed to be compressed only as far as the cover-bolt threads would allow, and they are designed to be re-used...?
It's not getting deformed, so it shouldn't need replacing as long as it isn't perished or cracked..... Well, that's what I always thought.

Not a part that needs to be changed unless damaged by an inept technician. The crush is preset (as scaredy points out). I don't think I've ever changed one out that has been in use.

OK. Thanks. I'llsave the $38 and tell them to not replace it.
