parts 411 or spencer cycle for exhaust?

O.K. i know spencer cycle supports this site but justify the higher exhaust prices? Who knows where I can get a hindle cheap? Muzzy might be O.K but I am scared of the lower RPM problems that I have read about, for a mostly street ridden bike that is most important.BTW I am almost more concerned about looks and sound than total top-end so try to talk me out of buying a slip-on(I was kind of thinking that would be the cheap, easy way to go. SO SORRY FOR THE NEW EXHAUST THREAD I DID LOOK AT ALL THE OTHERS FIRST.

Go with someone you trust. I've seen/heard of guys getting screwed by the cheapest they could find.

Parts 411 has no affiliation with our hangout. Although I've always purchased from my local dealer, I'd choose Spencer over 411.

i've always gotten the cheapest prices from Doug at Spencer. Are you sure you are comparing apples to apples?

Speak to TurboBlew! A friend of mine just bought a new Step Hindle and rode the bike 15 miles before he crashed (On the left side, so the Hindle is mint!) It is stainless and the can is Ti! He wants $585. Steve said he wants to buy it, but I am not sure if the Timing is right (Steve may have planned to buy it later, but the deal made him do it earlier)! Send him a PM!

Ask Vorizn about what he went through to get a pipe for $650.00! in the end, it even cost "ME" a few dollars and it sure cost him time and a lot of phone bills! The dealer's cost (Depending on if you get Ti or CF, is between $600 and $725. Now tell me about someone selling theirs for $635 to $695? They cannot make any money, so if there is a problem, there is no one to go to! Doug sells his (Again depending on the muffler) for between the very low $7's (Aluminum Muffler) to very low $8's (CF Muffler) and of course a little above the Mid $7's for Ti muffler (At least this is what I think he sells them for! Would you sell them for less?? (remember he offers other services also!) Ask Voz if he would go for the "Deal" again!

(I am not kidding when I say that It cost me some time and money also!)

Don't forget the fit issue with the Muzzy either.

My Muzzy fit perfectly. No probs, no melted fairings.

Slip on doesn't save much weight - I felt my bike handle differently. Yes, I did. Saved 15 lbs.

Major difference between full and slip on is weight. On some of the other bikes it's probably not worth it. On the 12 it is. Not sure about HP difference, though. But for the weight it's worth it to me.

my muzzy fit perfectly...no melting...the melting came to be when guys started bolting the pipes for tha tA model bikes on the B model bikes...the fairings were different shapes and the pipe was too close to it. As for the low speed hesitation....a good map will all but get rid of that.....I ride my 02 all the time...I have 13000 miles on it, and spent 11 months in the desert....runs strong....no hesitation.....buy a Muzzy....by it from Muzzy, or from Spencer, but go with someone who you know has good customer service.....there is no substitute, or price that can be put on customer service.....JMO......Jim

I have read most of the exhaust threads but I still don't understand why one free flowing exhaust would run so much different than another? It seems Akro and Step Hindle are best for bottom end and all around drivability. I even read that starting problems with a Muzzy can be cured by plugging off the end of the pipe when starting cold, Creating a little backpressure. It seems that header design actually makes a big diff. not just pipe size. the 12 comes with a pretty nice exhaust sytem factory(I have seen much worse) You would think a slip on would give you almost as good Performance but leave you with some weight(By the way, if the factory headpipe is Stainless why does it weigh so much more than say, a Muzzy?)

I don't have to do any of that crap with my Muzzy system. I'm quite pleased with it.

Basically I suppose Muzzy uses much lighter and thinner header pipes to make them lighter than stock. That also probably contributes to the noise which I would imagine stock pipes are trying to beat.

I was concerned with everyday drivability with doing mods to the bike but I think it's just different, not a burden.

Cool man thanks for the input. I am going to try to holdout for a system, but I am poor right now and can get a bolt-on for maybe 200.00

OEM collectors always have been double walled so I assume it is the same for ZX-12R while after-market ones are single walled.

This sounds like ZX-12.org info. I had a Muzzy on both a 2000 and 2002. Never had any "drivability" problems... Uh I take that back. The 2002 needed Muzzys map to cure some low end problems. Available for download from Muzzys.
Brought an Akra to see if there was any difference in top speed. The Akra needs alot more fuel (like 30% more) in the 100% throttle range for WFO.

I want to get a new post on exhaust sytems and stuff going because most of the info in the archives is old and I'm afraid things have changed for the new bikes.
