My Rear wheel bearing failed today

I was coming back from a little 100 mile ride when the ass end of my 12 started wobbling around. I was only going about 60 when i felt it as I was coming back into town about 2 miles from my house.I pulled over cause at first it acted like my tire was going flat. I looked at the rear tire and it loooked fine. I immediatly knew what it was. I looked at the rear axle and it was off center. It was hot as hell and my wife wasn't home to call to come get me in my truck.I decieded to ride it home very slowly. It was horrible to ride it like with the ass wiggling around and I was hoping the bearing didn't seieze to the axle. I made it home and it looks like all I will have to do is replace the bearing (I will put both new bearings in it of course). Pics below.

24,000 miles but I have an extra rear wheel so I'm not sure of the actual milege on that particular bearing.Maybe I'll change all my wheel bearings?? What do you guys think?

I have had to do all bearings also at @18,000 or so. The bearing on the cush drive went first and was causing vibration. After spinning both wheels on the axles, I discovered that all the bearings had issuses.

Your not alone Harry

Yup. I'd definately at LEAST remove the front bearing and other bearing and inspect. And if they aren't too much (I'd assume they aren't) I'd go ahead and change 'em.

I've only seen that once, and it was a situation where the owner forgot to replace the spacer in the rear wheel and eventually it tore up the bearing. I'll probably replace all my wheel bearings on both bikes this winter as a precaution.

how do the much touted ceramic bearings stack up vs regular bearings in terms of longevity? maintenance?

It was put together right.I will replace all the bearings in the rear. I have extra wheels and will check out the bearings in them also. I do ride in the rain when I get caught out in in or when I ride to work (most days) and it rains a lot in the afternoon in fla.
