Being from the West Coast, I'm not privie to the ride you guys are talking about. Clue me in? And why are so many guys getting sucked into crashing? I'm assuming it's supposed to be a fun ride. Crashing ain't fun!

There are several "Testosterone Slicks" at the gap.  All the guys in our group of regulars rides a pretty fast pace at the gap, probably at times too fast considering the 12s size. But we had 3 accidents in May, I don't want to see this in September.
My message to all DGVI attendees, myself included.
We are not qualifying.
Nobody has a stopwatch on us.
There is no TV crew, victory lane, trophy, or trophy girls at the store.
Don't get caught up in the moment, think about running a nice even, smooth pace. There are a zillion ways to run the gap, pick the one that is the safest for you. Do not keep the 12 "On boil" for too long between curves. It is very easy to find yourself getting into curves WAY too hot. Concentrate on being smooth and carrying as much cornerspeed as you can. Don't try and achieve max mph on every short chute, you will use up your brakes, it will wear you out, and possibly cause you to crash.
Leave yourself a little cushion at the gap. Odds are that you'll need it more than once while railing the 318 turns in 11 miles. It may be gravel in the road, meeting another rider or cage running wide, a goddamned semi, or transmission fluid put down by an ailing vehicle. I have experienced everyone of those things and more at the gap. Had I been @ 10/10ths I might not be here typing this right now. Who knows? Stay sharp guys, be alert when we're there, and leave the pissing contest to the squids. If I see anyone riding over their head I will get away from them asap, and probably, in a nice way , talk with them at the next stop if they are fortunate enough to make it that far. I don't care if they get mad either. I don't want to get taken out by someone with an axe to grind, nor do I want to see any of my brothers loaded up in the meat wagon because "Johnny Go-Fast" had something to prove. I'll tell you what earns my respect for other riders in one word. Maturity, that's all it takes.

As you well know, I quit riding triple digit wheelies @ the gap.
In my defense, it was after many years in the saddle that I started riding lots of wheelies. Besides you fucker, do as I say, not as I do!!!!!!! You know I really watch myself at the gap, seen too much bad stuff go down there over the years. I don't want to see any of my boys in a bad situation.

What's funny is when I slid in the gravel I was alone. I left you fellas quickly after leaving the COT and was hauling ass by myself when I crashed. Was I trying to race anyone? Well, my wife always said I had multiple personalities. LOL
