Yoshimura EMS

I've read nothing on the Yoshimura box other than vague posts of "troubles". Anybody else have one? The instructions suck but since I usually only look at instructions after I mess something up that was not a problem.

Fact #1) It was very easy to install and plug in with its harness, no butchering of the stock harness.

Fact #2) It comes with 6 maps. One map is a zero map, no changes.

Fact #3) It only came with fuel maps.

Fact #4) Each fuel map is in reality 3 maps. The baseline or ideal as tested (for that system) map as well well as a +5% and a -5% map. The software has a button for choosing which of the 3 maps is the default map. So, even without a 3-way switch maps can be altered very quickly with a laptop.

Fact #5) With 5 fuel maps and their +5% and -5% counterparts a total choice of 15 fuel maps!

Fact #6) With the 3-way switch I have 9 maps to choose from. Only 3 at a time can be the default map. Say you choose 3 separate maps, A,B and C. You could pick, switch position: #1 Baseline A map, #2 -5% B map, #3 +5% C map or any combination thereof. Think of it, an economy map, performance map or nitrous map at the flip of a switch. If one map is ideal, then switch position: #1 -5%, #2 baseline, #3 +5% for rapid changes in the fuel map due to weather conditions or even altitude changes.

Fact #7) It only came with fuel maps! But I downloaded the latest maps from the web site, maybe they include a timing map. I'll check later today.

Fact #8) Each fuel map has a timing map, 15 separate fuel maps, 5X3=15, 15 zero timing maps just begging to be used. Or, the same timing map could be used for all fuel maps.

I'll probably get around to programing the 3-way switch today but my main concern is timing maps. What timing changes for your 12, with what modifications and a PCIIIr? For simplicity I've made one map with 2.5 degrees advance accross the board. Same as using a timing advance plate or modifying the stock pick-up. Another map I adapted was Muzzy's race map for the 12. Any thoughts???? I'm using the fuel map for my Duplex race system. I kept the zero timing map for the -5% fuel map. Used the 2.5 degree advance map for the baseline fuel map and the Muzzy's race timing map for the +5% map.

I've been playing with it a little. Without any map, the 12 will not start, much less run. With the zero map installed it started and ran just like before the EMS. This was with a 100 RPM idle lope and sluggish response to throttle. I didn't leave it this way long.

The only map I've played with yet is the default map for my exhaust system with an across the board 2 degree advance timing map. Revs like a two-stroke now. No stumble, hiccup, sluggishness or hesitation to small blips of the throttle. I'm expecting increased HP, I did not expect better low RPM response.
