Draggin Knees in the Moonlight
It's about 80 degrees @10:30pm on a full moon night in SoCal. Just got back from a full boogie run in the mountains of Ortega Hwy. Once your eyes focus, it's absolutely stunning & awesome. No traffic at all. First time I was draggin both knees at night in quite some time. Incrediable rush. Obviously I don't recommend it for everyone, but I know the mountain blind-folded. Way nicer than Sunday mornings up there. It's gonna be way crowded with wanna-bees & posers in the morning. But it's all good. Just picture the thought in your mind... Thought I'd share. Anyone else done something like this?

never dragged a knee, but.. i think night riding may just be the most beautiful thing there is. jsut has that magical quality, especially when there's little to no traffic and ur in a fairly remote/unpopulated area. been meaning to do an all night ride for quite some time. was jsut talkin about it with mattie_k the other day. i used to just make a quick jaunt around stanley park (huge park in the middle of the city) and maybe thru downtown some time after midnight. makes for a great relaxer.

...sure, but do the wildlife know when you're coming blind-folded? ...that could get nasty, yes?...I used to go up Palomar at night scaring myself silly on my 12R, but now I like to putt up there at night on my KLR when I can...as matter of fact, I just may have to do that tonite ...let's be careful out there

Here in the northeast the development of land is unprecedented. This coupled with environmentalists shortening the hunting season has increased the deer population and decreased their habitat. I used to ride at night all the time but now you can't go ten miles without seeing deer chomping away a foot from the road. I used to not be so paranoid but four weeks ago at 6:30 pm in the daylight one of them "big doggies" decided to play chicken with me. He won for the most part but I got away with some of his hair stuck in the chin vents of my Arai. I was ok do to about a 40mph hit but I usually ride a bit faster.
It will take a while to get over deer paranoia but in the meantime anyone know where I can find a good hunting rifle?

Of course the risk factor increases. But I could probably give you a 100 other "risky" things I see daily. Don't get me wrong, I want to live forever! But with the race muffler on my Muzzy/Jardine system echoing off the canyon walls in the still of the night, I believe most wildlife flee from anywhere near the roadway (knock on wood....).
Just got back from this mornings ride, and yep, tons of riders up there by 7:30am. Got maybe an hour of good riding before the cops start cruizing the area, and getting their quotas. Great sessions this morning though, but I'd trade for having the road all to myself last night.

kelly and I went for a ride down here today...we covered about 60 miles or so. It threatened to rain the whole time. Traffic was low. Roads were straight. Animals stayed in the woods. Was a decent ride, would have been better if it were the cherohola....

hrmm this week i bet the cherrycola would be really cool at night with the full moon and all....
it is such a wide open road thatyou wouldhave awesome visibility.
but the deer thing would have me spooked....and lets not forget the boars...
having seen both at dusk/early nighttime, not sure i'd want to be going more than 3/10.
you folks know that curved bridge a few miles into tennessee (headed west from nc)? a bit past there the rock wall goes straight up. watched a deer in may run straight up that thing. (we slowe our pace considerably too...greenglenn will tell ya )
just because there is a dropoff to the side and solid rock on the other, DON'T think you are safe from those denizens of the dusk....
ride safe people, watch out for the boats (you cali people know what i'm talking about)

Yea, that sailboat cuttin loose and taking out the poor guy on a 600 Triumph was terrible. I travel that freeway all the time (only about 10 minutes from my house). He worked at V-Twin City. Man, you've just got to always assume the worst when you ride around cagers; ALWAYS! Don't ever let your senses down. Honestly, I just can't imagine how this happened and he was not able to avoid it, but what a tragedy, having that occur on your morning commute into work.... Keep your senses alert guys.

I agree riding at night is magical on the right road and right night, Full moon is a must.
I'm a night person 3rd shifter. I'm feeling right at midnight.
And I think of all the riders who I have known and not with us anymore. I place them behind me and I pull over and have a smoke and listen to the sounds of the night on top of a ridge out in nowhere.
It takes balls to ride at night and the rewards are there if your balls are,
Nonthing like the sound of a big bore cutting though the hollers at night.
