Low Dyno #'s
I live in hot and humid Houston and had my '00 ZX-12R dynoed friday. It was a DJ250 with a tuning link, but the tuning link was not working. The best #'s I got were 167.1 SAE hp and 91.2 ft-lbs SAE Torque. I have an Akra pipe, K&N filters, PC-3, Muzzy ign advancer @ +4 deg, Bear Stacks, Muzzy billet clutch basket. I was hoping to get into the high 170's. Some of you guys with similar mods are getting 180hp. Although there was a small A/C in the dyno room, it was warm and humid when we started, and got warmer as the tuning went on. When I ride, the bike feels strong with no dips. The tuner commented that he felt no dips in power and that the hp curve was smooth. A/F for the most part ran ~13:1 with a few small peaks/dips.
Note: The oil level before the dyno was at the "high mark" on the sight glass. I changed the oil this morning and it is now at the middle of the sight glass between the low and high marks.

On my 2K ZX12r, with an Akra Pipe, Bear Stacks, K&N plus PC3r, In Maryland I got 167+ HP. The filters made no difference and the stacks made about 2+ HP Difference (I was making 164 and 165 without the stacks!) I made 152+ HP Stock, so 15 more HP is not bad! The 183 HP I made was under good conditions with the BMC Race and the addition of the Billet basket! (Did I mention the Step tube Hindle?) +4 degrees is a lot of advance!

magzx,
I live in Houston area, and when my bike was set up exactly like yours, i got essentially EXACTLY the same hp numbers. I really don't worry about dyno numbers except as back to back comparisons of mods on the same dyno, same day.
I have no doubt that some folks are seeing 170-180's w/stock motors, but I'll wager big bux that their bikes are NOT getting any more mph in the 1/4.
I had my bike dynoed many times at: KS Cycle works in Katy (DJ150), Sabin in Dallas (DJ250 w/sniffer), and at JohnnyCheese in Austin (DJ250 w/sniffer). All 3 dynos read pretty similar (JC's a bit lo perhaps) and none of them give the outrageously high #'s I see posted from time to time.
Many of the big hp numbers are generated from dynos in AC'd rooms like Lee's.
Bottom line: don't listen to the big dyno #'s, take yr baby to HRP and see what the mph is. BUT, Houston weather has a very big impact on hp; up to 7-8% change from Feb to July; mph can drop 2-4 easily on a lo pressure, hot day.
Where did you get yr bike dynoed?
Do you run the Texas Shootout?

Entropy, this is Mark. I talked to you on the phone a year or two ago about getting a big bore kit on my bike, but I never did. I have a red 2000 that I bought from Highlands. I have not run my bike at the track. I had the bike dyno'd at NW Honda on 45N and West Rd.
Vince, Highlands set my timing to +4 deg. Would it be better to replace my PC-3 with a PC-3R where I can vary the timing instead of a constant +4 deg? I know the Hindle Step Tube is making more hp than the Akra, but what about the Arata? I saw an Arata pipe up close and it is sweet.
One other question, should I aim for an AF ratio of 13.2:1 across the rev range?

Personally, knowing what I know now, I would not have bought a PC3r, just used the advancer! The +4 in fine, even great at low rpms, but fights you on top!
I looked at the Perfection is pipe building called an ARATA (It was designed by the person that designed the TiForce) I do not think is will make any or much more than the Akra. The main thing about a TiForce, Muzzy and Hindle is that they are 4-2-1 and the ARATA and Akra are 4-1's
13.2 :1 is an excellent AF ratio for power and I would not go leaner!
You have never said what your "Original" HP Was!

I didn't dyno the bike before the mods. I had a Muzzy pipe put on back in 2000 and the shop did not have a dyno. When I switched from the Muzzy pipe to the Akra in '01, the shop that did the work did before and after dyno's on a Factory Eddy Current dyno. With the akra, PC-3, K&N's, and timing advancer, I got 165.5 hp and 90.87 ft-lbs which was a couple hp more than the Muzzy. I just added the Bear Stacks and billet clutch basket a couple of months ago.

Huh? From my understanding, if you calculate the difference from DJ150 to a Factory Eddy current, you would have been in the 190 hp range on the DJ150. And I keep seeing results that are 5 - 9hp higher on a DJ250.
If you are/were getting 165.5 hp on a Factory Dyno, you've got a monster on your hands! But I don't see how'd you'd get similar numbers on your original post using a DJ250??????

Dyno #'s
The dyno on the Factory Eddy Current was at ~4300 miles and the temp was low 80's. The dyno on the DJ250 was at ~13,000 miles and the temp was the low 90's with a lot of humidity. I may go back to the Factory dyno to see what my numbers are now.
