Some Improvement
Well had two great days at Road America!!!
Last year I did a track day at road america my best time I could muster was a 3:05 (yes I know E-Boz has nothing to worry about), so with the new track set-up (adding the Cicain (spelling) which slowed the pro's by 5 seconds I was hoping to keep my lap times even from last year. This was assuming the new corners would slow my ass by 10 seconds.
Well much to my surprise my best time was a 2:48, I did also manage to run consitianly in the low 2:50's I guess 8 track schools and some minor suspension work helped.
Just thought anyone would care.
Can't wait to see you all at DGIV 38 days to go.

Very cool. That brings back some memories. If you did those times on a 12, I think that's very respectable. When I raced there back in the early 80's, I believe Rich Oliver & I were in the 2:25 range or so on KZ750 Superbikes. They were kinda slow, but man they were sorted, and they carried their speed thru the corners!!

Turbo yes I got another wheel, yes I was on the 12, and yes you can hall ass on the 250's .
I was very happy with the improvement, and hope to get faster next year.

Cool, Barto.
You've done something I haven't: taken the 12 out to the track.
I might have a couple of pics of my upcoming weekend at Texas World Speedway.....
I'd like one of me in that goddamned fast banked turn there. I hear it's a good 150 mph turn. I wonder if my little 600 will do it (hell, or if *I* have the nads to do it!)

I can't imagine taking mine on the track. Not without a lot of suspension work at the least.

Hey Jon...I took a bone stock 02 12 out to Ed Bargy's school down here at Roebling Road. It was interesting to say the least. The 12 obviously doesnt handle like the smaller bikes. I had 600's passing me going into turn one, and they woudl put some distance on me all around the track. but coming out of the last turn and down the front straight I would pass all of them that were close....I couldnt hang with the faster riders on the smaller bikes, but that rush going down the front straight was a BLAST...It was hard to judge the brake marker. The 600's would sit up and brake between markers 1 and 2, I woudl sit up between 2 and 3. but I was carrying about 25mph more speed down the front straight....what a rush, if you all havent put your 12 on a road course, do it. But I am thinking it would have been evern more fun with a 180 on the back, instead of the 200. And I was very supprised how well the D208's that were stock held up. I like the 208, but its too much money.
Enough bable...give it a try one time.....

the track schools I've done they take pictures in the slower turns, where more people can get banked ove without shitting bricks - easier to focus too. Dunno about you but I'm too much of a SceredyCat to do knee down at 150!
Now 50... maybe...

At the track day's / schools, I do there is a guy named Jack who owns sliderphoto.com. His work is great he usually has all the riders sorted and up on his website a day or two after the event. I order a 18 x 24 is was great quality and he got me on a place of the track that I was doing about 140. Check his work out he is at

I've thought about putting the 12R on the track, but as much as I like to carry corner speed I'm rather reluctant to do it because I've done much more work on the 12 than I have El Gixero. I have crash bars and whatnot on the Gixxer, but of course, there's nothing on the 12R. Tossing it would really hurt my feelings and I'm sure the bike would sustain a lot of damage.
I'd be really pissed if I tossed it, and I'd be REALLY pissed having these turds on little 600 running over me on the outside. I'd get pissed then either low side the bastard running out of cornering clearance or highside gassing it too much.
Maybe not. But I know myself pretty well...
I'd like to take both of them, but since you pay by motorcycle and not rider, I'm loathe to do it.

necro - you'd be amazed at how well the stock suspension can work if you spend time working with it (ie; sag, compression, rebound, preload). I've taken mine out several times to California Speedway and it shreds. The only things to really pay attention to is the weight (plan your lines ahead of the apexs) and available traction (point and shoot style works best). But you always have to respect her, because she bites hard! Only complaint; brakes. They just can't handle her speed and weight and they fade badly after only a few laps. Going to try a set of carbon pads from Muzzy. Hey if they spank you in the corners, you know you'll get them down the straights! Go for it!

Yep. It took me a while to get my suspension sorted and I think I have now. Static sag is a definate must - follow Racetech's advice on that. Plug in your weight etc.
Did you try aftermarket pads? I have the EBC HH+ and SS lines and they work very well for me. But I don't use brakes much anyway...

Still waiting for my carbon pads from Doug (Meyer). I have the SS lines, but they only helped with lever pressure, not stopping power. My rotors are pretty cooked from track days so I don''t know how they'll hold up with the new pads. On the front straight at Fontana, I am about 11,200 rpm in 5th. Close to 174 or so on the speedo, before braking. That's where I noticed the problem the most; and it's no fun...

I may see him next weekend on the 17th...he sometimes shows up out there while we are out there. If memory serves me correctly, he got married a few years ago to Jeannie Garcia....not sure about that though. and that guys is still fast as shit Vince....Will drop yer name to him when I see him though...
