I'M GOING INTO THE MARINES Hey guys,
Met with the recruiter today, recruited my friend Mike also. It looks like I'll be going into the service. I'll probably be having a job as Aviation Mechanic doing work on Cobras. I'm very excited and I'll probably be leaving as early as end of the month and as late as early January.

uhhuh...... You do realize that the Marines paychecks say "Dept. of the NAVY" right? The sailors are too smart to go out and get hurt, send in the Marines. We sit back and nuke 'em from 2000 miles away.

Thanks for the support fellas. Unfortunately, nothing is set in stone yet. I've got the job I want picked out and on reserve (which I HAVE to take if I reserve it). All is dependent on my left wrist which I've broken 6 times and had surgery once. All the hardware has been removed but I have a serious lack of mobility. I can't do a regular push up (have to do them on the knuckles) but other than that I can do everything everyone else can do. Hell, I benched 300 with this shit wrist. So they counted me out of doing Reconn and asked me what I thought about Aviation and showed me my choices based on my test scores. I hope to God I get in, I want to go so bad....

The Few, The Proud... If you do choose to join, God bless you and thank you. Your service to all of us on the board will ALWAYS be appreciated and we're grateful for it.
A close friend of mine did the same thing in that "other service" (Army). After he got out, he worked in Germany for Agusta and later for Raytheon. He spent about 7 years in Fulda. While he was in Germany. he was making over $60K (not counting bonuses and "perdiums"). Some might think $60K ain't much... but it was TAX FREE! The bastard! Now, after finally getting his A&P, he's the chief of a line crew for Delta, in Atlanta. He also makin' a killin' in Atlanta.

Congrats! But I'm wondering, what made you join? Have you been thinking about it for a while or did Sept. 11 spur the thought? I ask because serving your country is a big move that should not be taken lightly. It is a all to serious job that everyone counts on. I'd also like to say that the forces don't get the credit that is due! Good work Silver!!!

I'm envious as hell. I wanted to join the Corp but the recruiter was never around. In the Navy office they were playing poker and drinking screwdrivers, so the Navy it was. At least I was on the Enterprise so I could hang with the jarheads. Good luck Pal. I think you'll like it.

I've decided that I need some direction. I don't need to grow up and I don't need my ass kicked. I almost went into the Air Force out of high school but I came into some "free money" and didn't have to worry about paying for school. Well, now all the money is gone and I have little education to show for it. I knew there was a reason why I was drawn to the service in the first place and there is a reason now...September 11th didn't help either. I've got more pride in my country now than I ever have.

It will be good for ya, do not enlist without a guaranteed career field. Sign up for your desired job (schooling, etc)and wait for the opening. Are you thinking about a career? just a few yrs maybe? learn a field that is valued in the outside world (A/C heating, lineman, machine shop etc)Thats my say, hope it helps. If ya need anything....yell

thanks again guys and gals.... Things are not looking too good right now. The docs are gonna reveiw the records on my wrist and see if they even want to see me for a physical. A few career Marines that I've talked to seem to think it will be a problem. I'd be enlisted for five years (if this happens) in aviation. Though I'm thinking I may want to swith to avionics in case I want to come out after five years.
BTW, who's the cheap bastard that gave me less than a five star rating?
