My tires pressures

SInce i bought a digital presure meter i realized that i was always runing under presure to my test.
i was around 32/31 front and 32 rear .

Today i rode 36/35.5 front and 34 rear.( BT010 120/70 and 180/55 rear )after many setups..
Big difference also the bike lost 100 pounds

I 'm very happy to have done those litle changes the oil and the tires presures it made a big difference and i rediscover the pleasure of the 12.

Next play with the pC3R maping
and real soon L.E ( i think ) rebuilt forks and brake line.

I had much the same issue on my ZZR1200, steering felt kind of slow, etc... Bumped the pressure up to the recommended, wow, new bike!

Tire Pressure.......

It's amazing at how a few psi low will absolutely kill your handling. You're now running pretty close to what I run, I usually run somewhere in the neighborhood of 36/36. It's a good baseline anyways.

31/30 for the RR track. 31/34 for Sunday knee draggin. 34/36 for cruising the beach with the wife on board. Higher you go, the "crisper" it feels and if you go around twisties in the mountains, you need to pay attention. When you run lower pressure, the bike is a little squirelly on the straights, but sticks like velcro when you flick the bitch into the corners.

Stones (Bridgestones). 012SS on the track and some weekend street twisty sessions. 010's most of the time on the street. I switch back and forth alot (I have my own tire machine & balancer). I've done a lot of tire testing with Pirelli's, Michelin, Dunlop, & Bridgestones. I prefer the Stones on the ZX12.

Honestly the difference is that the 012SS are much more consistent sliding, but wear fairly quickly in return. The 010's last longer, but break-away a little quicker and are a little more inconsistent in full tilt mode. At Fontana, I'm almost 3 seconds faster on the 012SS. Without trying to sound like I'm gods gift to speed, I do ride this thing at 8/10ths in the twisties on the street, and 9/10's on the track trying to keep up with all the "real" sportbikes. On the straights, it's fun to pass GSXR1000's without even needing to draft (I've not seen any Busas on the RR track yet). But in the corners, with a talented rider, they walk/run away. On the street, it's much more even because it's rider ability more than what bike you ride.

So opinions may vary. I think for most people, the 010's are the best value between sticking and mileage. Also, I highly recommend sticking to the full size spec rear (200 series). Going to a 180 or 190 on the stock rim is risky if you really flick the bitch in the corners. At 530 lbs (+) wet, she needs all the tread you can give her and my opinion is a 6" wheel is too big for a 180 or 190 (unless it's a RR Slick). But opinions are like arseholes, everybody has one...

I liked the 010s a lot. Till the first track day. Then, on the track, they quickly resembled shag carpet. I would have to disagree on whether to fit a 180 or 190, as it *greatly* improves the feel of the bike. That big ole 200 really slows things down!

That's the beauty of it, everyone to their own opinion. Whatever works for you is what's best! I should have added that I tried both the 180 and 190 and did not like the lack of feel at full tilt. But I'm pretty old, so I need to slow things down as much as possible.

Well, I just flat ran out of tire on a 180. Have a 190 now and while I don't have chicken strips, at least when I'm dragging toes I'm not on the edge of the tire anymore.

Hey Jon.............

Jon,
How's the turn in on a 190? There has to be some difference between it and a 180.

All I know is that I had a new 200 on my spare rear wheel, and didn't want to see it go to waste. So after running a couple 180s in a row I put this friggin' "Truck Tire" on the bike, and I hate the motherfucker. The bike felt sooooooooo good with the 180s, I can't wait to put another one on. I'll admit the 180 tends to make things interesting at max lean angles and may not be for everyone. I don't mind the rear drifting at all, you know this from your experience following me and Otis on the Cherohala. But a little bigger contact patch would be cool in the big MPH sweepers eh?

Give me the scoop you fuckin' Arkansas Stump Broke Goat Fucker!!!!

Sure, you Tennesse Turd Burglar:

I liked the initial lean on the 180 but once it was cranked over it felt kinda flat and hard to turn in tighter (look at how the rim on the 12 with a 180 pushes out the edges of the tire to make it kinda flat near the edge).

At slower, tighter stuff (like the Gap) I haven't noticed a difference in the 180 and 190. And at greater lean angles the effort required to lean the bike over is rather linear. Plus I know I have MORE of a lean angle than the 180.

At quicker speeds (like 80+ sweepers) it feels like it may be a bit slower - but not significantly to me. I can get on the gas harder and sooner without the rear end squirming around on me.

After going from the 200 to the 180, then back to a 190, so far I'm liking the 190 best.

When I was running at a nice pace I'd gumball the 180 all the way to the edge. Now when I'm running at about the same pace I have a couple of millimeters of tire left. And I think the rear end is tracking better as well.

I also changed from BT-010's to Diabolos. I know the Diabolos have a great turn in for tires of that type (sport-touring kinda). So I don't really have a apples to apples comparo here.

But, it does appear that even though I'm whacking the throttle it seems the 190 handles the abuse a bit better than the 180. I'll see what the durability is, though.

Well................

Good info, I guess I'll try a 190 out and see what it's like. All I know is , a 200 is out of the question.

It would help if more folks made a 190/55!

I am still running the 200 on the rear, I am using a 33/34 psi on the tires front and rear resptively. I use the entire back tire, but still have chicken strips on the front one. The tires I ran on the bike before I left were Dragons, now it has Pilots on it. I like the pilots they hold well and are very stable. But the milage is gonna suck. I keep my pressure at 33/34 all the time, it may not be prefect for any one style of riding, but it works for all I do. Have thought about trying a 190 on the back, but wont that really screw up my speedo? the 180 is about the same height as the 200 but the 190 is a bit shorter. My speedo is already off because of the drop tooth on the front, guess I need to invest in a little yellow box. my.02 worth.
