SoCal Dyno Shoot out finals - 12's & Busas

Final results from the Jardine Powerjam @ the LA Calendar Motorcycle show are in. In 9 different classes, we dyno'd 74 bikes over the two day event in front of a huge crowd. It was way hot at the Queen Mary event. As expected, John Noonan from JE Pistons showed up today with his 246 mph Turbo Busa and layed the lead in his class. We blew the Turbo H-D's twice while he tried to run big numbers on 2 different bikes. First bike pulled the studs and blew the head gasket. Second bike blew a seal in the turbo and smoked the place out. Props to to his tuner for giving it the ultimate effort. Good fun.

It was ZX12's & Busas in the Open Sportbike class. We had 10 entries. Many of the Busas had big motors, but failed to knock Kerry Ward off the top spot on his Muzzy motored carbon fiber wonder. Results below on the two premire classes.

Turbo Class -
John Noonan - Busa - 317 hp
Steve Barboni - Busa - 279.2 hp (and rode it to the event!)
John ??? - H-D FLHT - 225 hp

Open Sportbike -
Kerry Ward - '01 ZX12 - 186.0
Pranav Mulani - '99 Busa - 180.5
Kerry Bryant - '03 ZX12 - 175.9
Nick Martino - '02 Busa - 174.2
Nat Sanchez - '00 Busa - 161.5
Alex Guilliano - '00 ZX12 157.1
Rick Navarro - '02 Busa 155.7
Bruce Dale - '00 Busa 153.7
Gene Schelest - '00 ZX12 152.3
Mike Douglas - '01 Busa 151.5

Holy Shit man is that a Harley Davidson at 225HP???????? that motor alone cost more the the two bikes above put together, Man that would have been cool to see. a 200+HP Harley, I know some one who works for Axtel Motors(all Harley stuff) and they made a motor with approx. 200rwHP, and the dude had 60Grand in his motor alone!

The H-D was very cool to witness while it ran. I believe the Busa's ran in the 11 - 12 lbs of boost range. The H-D ran way more boost. Don't know the actual turbo size difference and what it all means. Doug M. or someone else would have to explain. H-D turbo bike was built by American Turbo Pak. I don't believe this was a ultra hi-dollar deal. Just lots-o-boost and let her rip!!!

ok, a 246mph busa has GOT to put out more than 317HP, by a large margin. maybe he was babying it? obviously the heat wont help. but u said the dyno was accurate otherwise, so... bah, my head hurts

John's Busa normally runs in the 350 - 400 hp range. No reason for him to go more at the show, he spanked the competition by a long way. I confirmed that he actually only had 9 lbs of boost going at the show (the Harley had 28 lbs!!!). His 246 mph run was at Bonneville, and that makes it even more impressive! I believe you lose about 10% at that altitude. His bike is incredibly aero-dynamic as well. His records are certified and they've done a feature on him on the Discovery Channel.

Hey Doug Meyer! You're the Bonneville expert, anything to add on John or turbo power? Considering John's aero package and speed, how much power did it take for his 246 mph run?

My bike has the all conquering Muzzy, with a Jardine built to Muzzy specs muffler (18", 2.25" core). I believe Ward's Muzzy motor'd 12 had a Muzzy pipe. There was another thread on his carbon wonder previously when everyone was wine-ing about how in the world he bought that bike for $8k!

HDL - There's always next year. I just signed a 3 year contract to run the dyno show. Would luv to have more 12's come out and put their huge numbers where the rear tire meets the drum. That's when the bullshit stops and the fun (and excuses...) begin!

lol...got that right K. Stock down in Daytona my 12 pulled 147.9 and 154.3 on 2 different dynos....Kevin just mapped it out for me and did a few little things to it and got 180.1 out of it on his dynojet dyno...not complaining, except it tends to chew tires up pretty good now....OH WELL...lmao...later Jim
