zx12 rebuild
So I guess I trashed my bike. It knocks and I scrapped a bunch of brass out of the oil pan. It runs but knocks and then dies some reason. The bike was bad ass and I learned to ride wheelies on it. Oh I have dreams of sending it off with a 7000 dollar check and getting myself a monster but my budget is far exceeded by my delusions of grandure. I'd like to fix and just return it to its former self. How hard is the engine going to be to fix and get this thing back on the road. Anyone help me here

Why bother to get it fixed! Sell the parts and you might be able to buy a whole zx12r with that money, rather that spend another couple of grand to fixing that one. You might even end up with flash money left over for gas and tootsie rolls! Use http://searchtempest.com and check the entire Craigslist (and Ebay) within USA, it's impossible not to find a decent ZX12R for under $ 3,000.00.

now i'm no pro mechanic, but sounds like you lost a main bearing. not sure why it dies tho. last engine i had that lost a bearing would still run, but knocked badly and of course had a ton of brass in it. possible it may be as simply as replacing the bearing. doesnt even require pulling the head. but i'd worry what else may be wrong. at the least though, I'd be tempted to pull the pan and just look at the mains, see if it is obvious.

the whole motor needs stripped down, it likely needs more than bearings. it usually takes out the crank too

theres a used crank rods and bearing on ebay for 500....get it,install and get back on the road for a total of 600$
