OUCH! Deer 1, Me 0
Thursday I went for a nice ride around the lake where I live on my way home from work. About a mile from my house at 6:30 pm I'm going about 40 mph when I see this deer coming from my right at full speed. Next thing I know I'm laying on the ground with traffic pulling up. I scrambled off the road looking for my bike. It was about fifty yards up the road. The deer cleaned me off and the bike kept going! I landed on my back and slammed the back of my head on the pavement.
I will say this. WEAR YOUR HELMET! All I have is a headache and a backache. But looking at the scrapes and impact on the helmet I would be WAY worse off! The bike isn't too bad as I think it slowed down and then tipped over. The usual fairings, stator cover and such. My helmet has deer hair stuck in the chin vents so I guess that's where the first impact was. But the important thing is I will live to ride another day!

Congrats on a successful deer/bike interface meeting. Hope the bike isn't too mangled..... did you manage to keep and make steaks out of the deer?
You're very right though, the right gear will save your skin (or head). I've suffered too many leather-scraping events over the years, but have never been seriously hurt. If I'd been in jeans and a t-shirt, I wouldn't be here.
A friend of mine lost it at over 90mph, his bike was toast but he had not a scratch - put the shits up me though as I was behind him....

damn, scary stuff! amazed u got away with it as well as u did. i must say tho, the image of ur bike continuing on is kinda funny. can u imagin the looks on people's faces when they saw this bike ghosting along (assuming they didnt see u)?
seriously tho, lucky u werent run over by a car behind u! that's what would worry me the most.

Well, being from the 'natural state' (or, state of confusion for me) we constatntly worry about deer. Once driving home I stopped counted deer at 60 standing at the side of the road.
Glad you are okay and you weren't any worse off than you are. Glad you didn't meet him doing a buck or so (no pun intended).
