feels like clutch slippage!

Somebody please help!
My baby (zx12r) is sick. After I blasted my bud's zx9 out of the water, he didn't believe the 12 is that fast, so I had to give him some. I didn't notice any problem with my bike. I took it home and put it in the garage. A few days later I took it out for a ride and pulled hard on the throttle it only caught a little and redlined; it didn't really pick up a lot of speed. Well, I replaced clutch(back with stock- fiber and steel plates) and still the same problem. Can it be anything else other than the clutch.

springs gone bad? Still have stock springs?

If you get on it and the bike shoots to redline but doesnt accellerate...sounds just like the clutch giving way to me.

What size steels did you use when you replaced the clutch?

Replaced springs too, I could only assume that clutch was the problem. I used the regular size stock steels.

hmm...stack height not tall enough?

Did you replace the small fiber with a regular size one? And remove the "springs" inside that inner fiber?

You know, I may have. I was thinking about that when I finally got hold to the actual configuration. #1, 7, 12 were different fiber plates. The springs you're talking about must be the four; two at the begining and two some where between four and seven. I guess I'll have to go and tear that clutch apart again. Thanks for confirming my suspicion. It's cool to be able to talk to someone with some know how.

ah yes...you must have a newer 12R (02/03) they have more smaller fibers and springs than the 00/01 models.

Get rid of all that crap and replace the fibers with normal sized ones.

Get some 2.0mm steel plates while you are at it...every little bit helps...those thicker plates will prevent them from warping as easily as the 1.6s.

Nah, believe it or not it's the 2001. I sold my zx9r to my cousin and bought that 12 with only 1500 miles on it back in Mar. I never had any problems with my 9. I definitely check out those 2mm though.

umm...you should have only had 2 "springs" in the back of an 01 clutch.

Did you change the oil recently? If so, which oil? If you've put in an oil with molebdynum disulphide friction modifiers, they'll screw up any clutch you put in there.....
Just a thought.

What's up SC?
I used kaw 10/40, but I realized the supplier didn't send enough fiber plates and I an old one. Then that's not the prob, cause I purchased the new ones and for some reason when I stack all 12 fiber plates the shaft will not disengage the clutch. there's too much free play on the inner shaft. So, I remove the #12 and #11 fiber and steel plate. This allowed the clutch to be disengaged by the vertical shaft. It's still slips. Kind of confusing cause I removed 11 steel and 12 fiber plus two washers and two springs. 1 washer, 1 spring in back of 1st fiber plate and 1 washer, 1 spring in back of 7th fiber plate. The same type stack will not fit.

Put in 11 fibers all the same size, 10 2.0 steels and 6 clutch springs from a 2000 ZX6r and the best mod. to make to your clutch is a Hub from a 2002/03 it gets plenty of oil to your clutch then!!!

Get it all from www.RonAyers.com

Thanks CR, I'm learning few things. I may have to take your advice if all fails. I would like to get the original setup back, it appears that may not be possible.

Sounds like Stack height is the problem.
If you had 12 filbers and 11 steels you have a stock pack meaning
a mixture 1.4 , 1.6, and 2.0 steels.
MAYBE you repalced the steels with all 2.0's.
This will give you a tall stack height.
Try adding one extra steel (two side by side) in the middle on the pack.
Don't put the extra fiber in.
good luck.
