Nanotubes...
Is Kawis new bike going to be made of nanotubes?
Have any of you guys been folowing the development of these things?
I just read yet another article on the possable use and misuse that leaves me wondering what they couldnt be used for.
Sounds like this is equivelent of the discovery of plastics, or oil, or even electricity itself.
Amaizing stuff.

LOL - every few years, a new technology comes along that is the "hottest thing" that will "solve world hunger, bring world peace and unity and provide better orgasms". This is a necessary market "oversell" set up so that investors will open their purse strings and put real money into creating the REAL solutions that the technology will address. A few years from now, we will see new products come out with the technology integrated into them. The products WILL be cool/new etc, but I doubt that they will live up to the current "oversell" market hype (products never do). I've read that nano tubes will increase the speed of my PC by 100000 percent, give me a .5 inch 90" digital flat screen TV for 50 bucks and allow us to create a space elevator. I bet they assist in the cheap delivery of all of those basic technology sectors, just not to the extent that current overhyuping is suggesting. I have too much time on my hands today - can ya tell?

Yea putting nanotubes into practical items will be "real" use.
But, one bio/pham company thinks they can be made into "virus" type programable mechanical/electrical little gismos that you wont be able to see with your eyes and can infiltrate a living organisim.
Now thats fucked up.
I'll take engine parts please.

lol! worm~hole, i think u just burned urself pretty bad there buddy
back on the subject, i'd have to agree that i'm sceptical to see just how incredible they turn out to be. carbon fiber was supposed to be some miracle material too, and tho it is the best thin for many applications, it has plenty of drawbacks and limitations that keep it from being as incredible as it was supposed to be. perfect example of this whoel game is LEDs. they are really being hyped as the replacement for all bulbs, but i'v spent a good chunkof time looking into it, and when they are actaulyl used to replace tranditional bulbs, the power savings are only about 50% (or thereabouts). they pull very little power, but they put out very little light, so u need SO many of them. they are making individual LEDS very powerful these days (up to a full quarter the power of an 1157 bulb) but they are 5watts anyway. plus they dont last nearly as long as the traditional 100,000hour LED, diminishing another big benefit of LEDs. finalyl, those bright ones are like $35 or so a piece. fuck that.

One of the guys that works here used to work at NASA before he "got hurt" experimenting with "High-Powered Electrical Propulsion"...almost killed him when they "found out (by accident)" that liquid oxygen becomes magnetic if/when enough energy is put to it...ANYWAY...he has told me quite a bit about the TUBES also...VERY interesting stuff...
It sure would be nice if ONLY GOOD THINGS were done with these new inventions?!?!?!

When I work out what the pressure of 30 GiagPascals per few nanometres is, then I'll have a BIG pressure, and real strong errrr "thing". Don't know if it'll be heavy or light though?
Anyone for a buckminsterfullerene? No, me neither, I'll have a beer.

The worst thing is, technically there ARE things called GIANT Nanotubes......
Not sure if I want one or not......
Must research.....

..see???...I told you so...so nyahhh!!!!
(for those of you who don't know, my nickname has been 'Nano' since the day I was born 48 years ago...if I was paid a dollar for every nano-nano crack made to me after the Mork and Mindy show was on, I'd have enough money to buy my R1150GS Adventure by now ...my mother always told me I was special...a one in a billion! )
