Oil streaks on left fairing
Just noticed the other day that there were signs of oil having come out the side of my engine, I noticed it along the outside of the fairing. Looks like it is from the cam cover bolt seal, but it might be dripping down from above (the top of the rad was wet too).
I had just oiled my air filters the night before, might have overdone it a bit - but is there a way for excess oil to drain out of the airbox (upstream or downstream of the filters), and end up on the top of the radiator?
I know the airbox drain on the engine side is hosed, and I thought the other side was drained out of those things that look like spaniel's ears (resonators or whatever).?
I'm not too worried unless it happens again.
It's a 2003 B2.

I never replaced the cover on my ZZR11, and I had the thing off lots of times. It's rubber, so it's not like a normal CAF gasket.
No I never had this one off, but it looks more like the oil's coming out of the bolt seal (the one that you can see easily from the left hand fairing hole).
But I really think (HOPE) that it's the air filter oil dripping down and getting blown back by the fan.......

the bolt seal on the top of the valve cover?
Yea...ive hadem leak outta there too.
Take off the bolt itself..its pretty long..there should be a rubber gromet/washer between the bolt head and the valve cover itself. See if its damaged. Heck it might just be loose.

Yep, it's not loose.
Still gotta get the SOAB out, 'cos there's a plastic thing in the way that looks like it might need a complete engine rebuild to remove. I'd hate Kawasaki if they didn't make such brilliant bikes.
Anyway, I've got my dealer informed, so hopefully any problems will be sorted out under warranty. (I got a complete new cowling and screen, because there were a couple of tiny scratches on the bike when I bought it.
So Kawasaki are officially "A Good Company".
I'll keep you posted, thanks again.

And another thing..... :-)
How much pressure is in that cam cover? I woulda expected it to be averaging about atmospheric - if it's squirted out of the cam cover bolt, forwards, it must have some pressure behind it, like 10-20 psi which sounds unreasonable to me (open the oil-filler and you'll see pulses but nothing like enough to kill a good rubber seal).
I just keep thinking it's my over-use of oil on the air filters, after which I gave the inside of the airbox a squirt with WD40 to make it "stickier". That might have melted the oil and made it run somewhere but I'm unsure where. And there doesn't seem to be anywhere that it could have migrated to the top of the radiator from!

the oil is shot into that cavity with some pretty good force..not to mention the cams rotating at a pretty freakin good RPM fling that shit everywhere in there. If there is a seam..itll get out of it.
As for that black cover....I ripped that fucking thing out long ago...never put it back
Might was well remove your Kleen air system while yer at it too!

Yeah, thinking about doing the Kleen Air removal as well. I can't see it's a performance-enhancing thing, so it's gotta be the opposite.
I saw lots of ways to do it, and I'm not going to ask how (in detail) here again, but how did you do yours?

ripped out the plastic doohickeymajigger.
Yanked out all the hoses.
Covered the holes in the plates with a washer and some aluminum tape.
Covered the hole in the airbox with some aluminum tape
Put a screw in the vent hose (or whatever that was) that sits up by the radiator.
Dont recall if there was anything else....all hoses were either rerouted or plugged

Thanks YCIS.
But I think I screwed up.
Must be that in my over-keenness to oil my air filters I didn't just "tap with an oiled rag", I maybe "poured liberally then rubbed the extra off with a kitcken towel".
I think the few cc's of oil (1 teaspoon max) that drained out of the filter somehow ended up on the top of the radiator, via some plastic bits or whatever, and gave me heart failure when I saw the residue.
A little bit of oil look far much when it's splattered down the side of your cowling!
I'm relaxing again.
What a bike!

YCIS,
Cheers mate,
I'll go for your KleenAir removal way though, I'll let you know how it works.
Thanks again,
