I found this in my oil....
OK, I'm listening to all the "sand in the airbox" threads, and I haven't checked mine yet, but I just changed my oil after 1000 miles (600 km here), see what I found:
OK I just read the rules, I'll get the pic avaulable.
Thanks
Doh! Damn I wish I was internet-savvy.

If you found some metal in your oil or filter it is not unusual in the first couple of oil changes. That is why I like to change my oil and filter pretty frequently in the beginning. I have always abided by an oil change schedule as follows: first change is at 250 miles, second change at 750 miles, third change at 1750 miles and from then on I change it 2000 mile intervals. Except in the winter if I don't ride much I change it every 60 days. Don't know if I am throwing my money away, but I have never had an oil or bearing failure.

I followed the same schedule w/my 1361 except my 3rd oil change was @ 1500. What oil do you like ?

Yeah, a piece of metal
Yep it was a piece of metal, like the end of a needle, about 1/4 inch long.
I've never seen anything like this in my bikes, but then I always got secondhand ones before.....
I'm changing the oil regular (3 times in 1200 km).
What do you reckon to these magnetic rings that fit between the filter and the housing? Anything big enough to get attracted to it would have been caught already in the element (I would hope anyway). And isn't the biggest chance of metal filings going to be aluminium anyway?
I used standard mineral motorcycle oil for running in (1000km), but have now switched to fully synthetic Total Oil (what they put in at the 1000km service). I'll probably go to Mobil 1 bike oil though if I can find any here.

Not a thread
YCIS,
Don't think it's a bolt thread:
1) It's completely straight
2) There's no triangular profile to it.
I've got a picture but can't work out how to post pics on here yet.
When I do, I will.

But...
I never found anything else after the next oil change, and the oil was clean.
Maybe I was just looking too hard.....
