Fairing & heat shield question

Hey Folks,

After 5 months of looking on eBay for a replacement right lower fairing for my bike, I finally just sucked it up and bought a factory new one from Ron Ayers. The only thing is that the replacement panel doesn't come with the heat shielding.

Anyone every tried putting on the fairing without the heat shielding? Should I cut the shielding off the old fairing and glue it onto the new fairing, or will I be OK just installing the new fairing without the shielding?

The Pipe wrap can change the performance of the pipe and not always to the Good!

OK, there was a problem with my Ron Ayers order, so I canceled it. I hope you're right about the stuff at the autoparts store. I've got a race on the 4th of July weekend. I want my bike looking pretty for the first time in a long while.

Heat shielding?

Just had a look on my B2'03, do you mean the foam stuff? I reckon that's more like sound deadening/vibration reduction stuff. I thought heat shielding is usually tinfoil-like?

Nope, that stuff is "heat-sheilding" in the Service Manual, & for saving the fairing from melting. Our bike is one of the "hottest" running engines out there.

(Hence, the reason some pipe makers will not do carbon cans for the ZX12R {Two-Bros, etc.}

Hey Aris, you been up to SP "Grudge Night" lately? As I'm about 2 weeks from layoff, I'll have lots of time on my hands in a few...

Time for the drags! Ordering the basket today!

Dave,

I haven't been to a 'grudge night' yet. I'll definitely hit one up if you can make it. I've got a NHRA Division 7 race on 4th of July weekend, and Nitro Night of Fire at Sacrament on July 19th. The rest of the weekends in July are wide open.
