How the F@%K do you do get this bearing in?

Hey fellas, was installing the new parts on my 12 this weekend and everything was fine except installing the center needle bearing in the clutch cover. There are as you know two of them and the outer one was not a problem but for the life of me I oculd not get the center one all the way in. It is about 1/2-2/3's of the way in. I can't imagine this is going to be too much of a problem as it is just for the pull but how the hell am I supposed to get it all the way in? What tool can be used? I used a Channel Lock to get it in as far as I did but I just can't get enough force on it to push it all the way home.

Any suggestions????

Oh shit, I would never use a pair of channel locks. The proper way to set the bearing is to use a shaft to press it in that is the same diameter as the bearing.

Yes I know swft but to get a shaft in there you have to go through the hole of the first bearing and the only thing I had to use was too big to go through that hole. Any other ideas?

The proper order to do this would be to seat the bearing using the shaft, then press in the second bearing. Did you look at the factory service manual before you started? I hate to say it, but there's a good chance you've screwed the bearing shell and possibly scored the clutch housing as well by using a pair of vice grips. In any case, you'll need to pull the bearing out and use a shaft or deep well socket that's the same size as the bearing outer shell to press it into place. THEN press in the other bearing.

Fuckin' Yankee......

I wonder about you boyz sometimes................

As long as the shaft rotates freely you'll probably be ok. You are lucky that you didn't fuck up your parts with the pliers. Channel Locks are good for a lot of things, and probably about the most versatile, and abused tool in anyone's toolbox, but pressing bearings doesn't fall under it's intended uses column.

But who here hasn't used channel locks in a way that the manufacturer never intended them to be used??????

use a small diam punch or something like that to fit through the middle of the top bearing and then use a couple of washers and a socket, or throw a coin like a nickel on top of the socket and then press it it. I know it sounds kind of weird but I think it should work...

Try a socket, with the same O.D. as the bearing, pushing ever so damn hard.Call me an idiot, worked for me.

Molesting chickens? Shit. They run around too much and are hard to catch.

Goats, on the other hand, are much easier to catch, put up a reasonable fight, and I like the way they sound.
